A lot will be made of Rumsfeld stepping down. The Democrats will be the ones to miss him most. After all, it is Donald Rumsfeld the left made the point man for their hatered of all things Bush. He was vilified because he was effective, says the right. And to those of us in the military he was very effective for a lot of things, and yes, made mistakes in others.
But here's the calculation...Bush disarms the left and the Pelosi steamroller by taking the target off the screen. The democrats roll into power without the ability to strut around ranting about a supposed "mandate" and demand Rumsfeld on a platter. Of course they would hope that the process would take 6-8 weeks. THATS....what they wanted.
The next target will be Cheney and Rove. So, we will see what transpires in the coming weeks. But here's the great news. They really think, because of their inability to hide their unbelieveable arrogance, that Bush is the inferior idiot. They will make the mistake again.
Agreed.
nah, more like emotional reaction.
Delusional? You want delusional? How about this: Rumsfeld's resignation is a smart move because it frees him from his day-to-day duties at the Pentagon, so he can begin his campaign for the 2008 Presidential nomination.
"he didn't want to undermine the troops"
Too late.
You don't really believe in the "building consensus" line do you? Have you seen the Democrats accept any olive branch without using it as a weapon? They will just hunger more sacrifices.
Cheney should step down so we can groom a candidate for 08. He will be much better in the private sector now.
No one has done more for the Dem agenda than Rove, so yes, he is a genius, because the GOP pays him to do it.
See Frank Norris, "The Octopus."
There's no point in attacking Rove, His work is done. He will not lead the next election cycle.
Cheney will be under investigation/indictment in no time, Bush should dump him now because it will smear the entire GOP.
Oh! left out the most imortant one.
After Israel attacks Iran, in solidatity the Persian Gulf state's drive up oil prices to over $100.00 a barrel our economy collapses.
Rumsfeld was wise to step down. Otherwise, he would constantly be before a Democrat controlled Congressional committee, wasting time and being second-guessed.
Now if only Ken Mehlman will take responsibility for his lack of leadership and resign.
In place for a run in 2008.
He's on greased skids leading to the back door of the RNC after Tues' debacle.
All that remains is to pick a replacement. Some have mentioned Santorum---JD Hayworth might also throw his hat in.
Oh, I like those choices. I am now waiting to hear that
Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour is tossing his hat into the Presidential ring.
Mehlman touted Rudy as a "great campaigner," sending him out to campaign for all those Republicans----who went down to defeat.
What with Rudy's earlier bigtime losses in the South, it appears having Rudy campaigning for you is the kiss of death.
This is the man Mehlman says is supposed to save Republicans in 2008.
Bleccch.
Thank you for clarity....
(Memo to Davidson: where's Ohio now? All of it in Dem hands, thanks to your incompetence.)
I agree.
It may be smart tatically but I just can't get that bad smell out of my nostrils every time I hear it again.
