It's been a fun couple months for those of us who love football in all it's forms.
We are at the halfway point in the NFL with the conclusion of Monday Night's game.
We are at a critical point of the season in College Football where one loss can ruin an otherwise great season for someone.
This is a thread for everyone who loves football to bring in their personal observations about the football season, their debates and anything else you'd like to contribute.
No, no I was just making the comparison for comparison's sake. Personally I can't stand Frye as an NFL QB. And I have to hear every day from the so-called experts in town, how good he is going to be!!!!!
And no, I'm not a Stillers fan either!!!! My favorite teams have always been the Dolphins and Packers, and since the Browns left in '95 the Panthers.
Nothing against Charlie personally, but he is way over his head here.
Well, this Browns fan isn't giving up on Charlie yet. He's still basically a rookie and needs to learn to read defenses(and the playbook) better.
That could be it....
Have you watched the Bears against the Dolphins and Arizona?
I rest my case :)
we'll see though.
Ohio State plays Northwestern this week :)
Most important Game in SEC this weekend Ark v Tenn. If Ark wins then that pretty much is the SEC championship. LSU and Auburn out of the race. Important for Auburn as to polls. Without having the SEC championship game as a possibilty Auburn even if it keeps winning will slightly drop in the polls. Life is not fair but hey. That also means that other teams can jump Auburn even if Auburn keeps winning. IF Tenn wins AUburn will still beranked high till the end because the LSU/ARk game is the day after Thanksgiving. SO needless to say I think what happens at Teen/Ark affects more teams rankings than they realize
The WAC still doesnt get enough love. Hawaii gets no respect for example. Sad
Lastly, too much Lou Holtz bashing on College boards. Its depressing how the greatest mind in football is treated. I love him on ESPN. Who cares if he has a lisp. HE overcame that and that even makes him greater
One last thought. I do think the National Cahmpionship is taking something special from football. It seems to some fans the season is over if they are not in contention after losing one game. Sad. I dont detect the same intensity to the rivalries betwen schools as I once did. Coaches now get fired too soon because of this. Another reason for a playoff
yea they won. Da Bears have a 3 game game lead over the Queens
and are 3-0 in the division.
They won?
REally?
Against Miami?
7-1 the second best record in the NFL.
Now if only I could be as right about this accounting homework as I am about football, eh?
I don't know about that stuff right there ;)
Neither do I, and I've got a test in 10 hours. arrrrgh!
you'd better get to sleep then :)
I have a day full of splitting logs ahead of me if the rain lets up, which it won't.
Boise State is currently the class of the WAC, have been for at least the past 5 seasons. I say this even though Hawai'i is probably playing slightly better right now than BSU. Not knocking Boise State though, they should consider themselves fortunate that the ACC is having a very down year, otherwise they probably wouldn't even be close to the top 12 in the BCS.
Nevada, San Jose State and Hawaii are going to bowl games. Idaho is fading and the rest are...well, hoping to see some windfall from Boise State's Fiesta payday.
Oh, hey, you may think your conference sucks, but it's nothing compared to the Mountain West. Here's a timeline of what's happened since the end of last football season:
-ESPN wants to renew their contract w/ the MWC, but they want to have them play on Wednesday and Sunday nights and at goofy start times (the same thing they're doing with the WAC).
-So the league signs a long-term deal with CSTV, the new college sports network that's owned by Viacom. Okay, fine. You have to buy a seperate package to get it on Dish Network or DirecTV, but at least you get to see the games.
-"Not so fast my friend." Instead of getting all the televised glory that CSTV has to offer, Comcast steps in and creates "The Mtn.", the network totally dedicated to the Mountain West Conference. Uhhhhh, okay...
-There's only one problem. Comcast being a cable company and looking for any way to torque off the satellite providers strongarms them and prevents Dish and DirectTV from putting "The Mtn." on the satellite providers (I know negotiations are still ongoing, but that doesn't change anything for this season.) IOW, if you don't live in the states of Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, or New Mexico, odds are you are likely SOL if you're a fan of one of the MWC schools.
To make matters worse, that parochial stench from Provo (BYU to you non-Westerners) is atop the league. If you'll forgive the cliche, "in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king". And that one eyed man right now is BYU. They have a ton of talent offensively and the rest of the league frankly isn't that good right now. Last year's champion (TCU) is struggling. Wyoming has a solid defense and a very talented QB in Karsten Sween, but I think next year is probably their year. Colorado State has been mediocre for the most part. Air Force started out strong but looks as though they're going to run out of steam the last month of the year. New Mexico is decent, and probably a little better than their record indicates. San Diego State and UNLV are awful. UTAH has a lot of internal turmoil and from my vantage point is probably still "hung over" from the wildly successful Urban Meyer era.
To make matters even worse, the MWC bowl games (Las Vegas, Poinsettia, New Mexico, Fort Worth) not only aren't being played outside of a MWC city, but not a single bowl game is being played after Christmas day.
Well, there it is. Comments, questions and donations are always appreciated. :)
If, and that's a big if, ND ever joins a conference, it'll be the Big 10(that's if the Big 10 still wants them). I don't see them joining anybody anytime soon though. Like you said, they have their own TV contract and keep all the bowl revenue.
Hi Mike. My observation is that the NFL is boring and that college is much more exciting. I'm not sure why.
Already voted this morning, straight Repulican ticket.
Are you talking about Grossman? He should be rookie of the year since he's only started 15 games in his career. He'll get a lot better my friend.
Stole my thunder, Mike. Texas is enjoying their time at the top, and they're a sure bet for a BCS game. I didn't see the game with Ohio State; can't help but wonder how it would turn out now with McCoy having some experience now. He's a sure bet for BIG XII player of the year.
My other team, the University of Tulsa, is 8-2 and (I think) still in the running for the conference championship and a nice bowl trip.
Back to Oklahoma, though, it's not a sure bet that we'll win out against T-Tech, Baylor, and OSU but if we do Stoops is coach of the year. If we don't, Kragthorpe at Tulsa is coach of the year.
