The band's spokesperson confirms to entertainment news website TMZ.com, that Wolfgang, known as "Wolfie," has already joined his dad and uncle for rehearsals in the studio.

Rock group Van Halen has named Eddie Van Halen's 15-year-old son Wolfgang as the new bassist for the band.

Wolfgang's mother is former One Day At A Time star Valerie Bertinelli and he is the nephew of the band's drummer Alex Van Halen.

He will replace longtime bassist Michael Anthony, who left the band earlier this year.

The band's spokesperson Janie Liszewski confirms to entertainment news website TMZ.com, that Wolfgang, known as "Wolfie," has already joined his dad and uncle for rehearsals in the studio.

He played dates with his father during the band's 2004 tour, and the song "316" on 1991's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was named for his birthdate that same year.

The band is still without a lead singer, despite rumors that David Lee Roth might re-join the rockers.

If you would have asked me 25 years ago what would happen to the band Van Halen in the future, I would have told you that they would be history and the principals probably dead.

I would have been wrong.

Never would have imagined a family affair.

Eddie almost was... I guess he's fully recovered.

The VH brothers must really hate Diamond Dave - a reunion tour would be pretty well received.

Lead singers for that group is like the new flavor of the month...they come and go.

My favorite Van Halen era was David Lee Roth as the lead singer. Eddie is a great guitarist.

The tongue cancer has made Eddie virtually absent from the television radio set ... they need DLR to promote and show a personality of the band. Now more than ever.

I had heard Eddie was on the straight and narrow early on but he got caught up in the bad stuff later. Based on the results he looked probably paler than most dead people and it probably cost him his marriage.

Really hated to see that. And a friend in music told of a bad accounting of seeing Eddie focused on obtaining that white powder.

I saw DLR twice in concert and he is a blast. He doesn't need VH...he rocks on his own. Plus, Eddie is an a-hole.

Plus, all those packs of Marlb Reds hasn't helped much...

Who looks worse these days? Eddie or Keith?

Eddie Van Halen's Son Named Band's New Bassist

Seems like a long name to me. Why not just Bill or George?

There you go again, bringing back idyllic memories of me scribbling the VH logo on my middle-school desk and homework folders.

I wonder if Eddie will get the whole family into making really bad porn soundtracks like he did earlier this year.

Maybe musically, but the social scene is what should be a concern.I am sure daddy will not be there to watch over him 24/7.A taste of extracurricular activities is all that would be needed to sway one to temptation.I hope that would not be the case.I do wish him well.

All they need now is a genuine lead singer. Bring back David Lee Roth!

Is that a pack of Trojans in his hand?

Might be but he probably thinks it's a guitar pick.
