LOS ANGELES - Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary. "(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site.
The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships."
Harris stars on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." He started on TV as a teen, playing the namesake doctor on the series "Doogie Howser, M.D."

Bette Davis said in order to be an actress, a woman has to be more than a woman; and to be an actor, a man has to be less than a man.
Statistically, that's about right.

She wasn't referencing sexuality...

She was referencing what is weirdly known as "the craft" in which men have to discard their personality and women have to inflate their presence to often overshadow a man.

FYI -- that quote is also attributed to Richard Burton

That was not my understanding when I met her once and asked her about her oft-quoted comment. She was very forthcoming. I remember blushing through much of her candor.

I never met him. But it would hold up equally well, from what I've heard.

She was probably being a smart aleck. Actors love to denigrate their profession and each other and themselves...

No, but I play one on TV...
Sorry, couldn't resist. No, not an actor, but I've spent a good portion of my adult life around various people in the arts, actors included. The profession and "craft" is fascinating to me, but many of them are just nutty as hell.

The problem is even when they're pretending they think it's real.

If they're any good, yeah. If they're any good they actually re-wire their brains in a role to give a good performance. And if you ask them how they do it, they can't tell you.

The trick to acting is to cultivate an unnatural lack of inhibition.
And never move your eyebrows.

He was one of those rare things, a movie star who is also an actor.
