LOS ANGELES - Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary. "(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site.

The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships."

Harris stars on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." He started on TV as a teen, playing the namesake doctor on the series "Doogie Howser, M.D."

When I was a kid, my father used to point at various celebs on the tube and pronounce them gay. It used to surprise me the number of celebs he would declare to be gay. One day, we were watching a TV movie and he pointed at Rock Hudson on the screen and declared him gay. At that point, I figured my father didn't know what he was talking about since there was no way Rock Hudson could be gay. Years later I found out that he was right about Hudson and all the other celebs as well (such as Gomer Pyle).

Please tell me that John Wayne was not gay … seems that admitting that you are gay is the latest Hollywood exposé. Soon all the folks making films and TV will be gay if they are not already. Drunks, perverts, drug addicts, that is Hollywood today and yet we glamorize these people. Go figure.

I saw this on another board, and what I said there, I'll say here: His coming out is still not as disturbing as seeing him in that SS-like uniform in Starship Troopers. (And I can't believe that flick's been out almost ten years and I'd never seen him referred to as "Doogie Himmler" because of that gear until tonight.)
