Dr. James Dobson 'Heartsick' Over Haggard Allegations
Dr. James Dobson ^ | November 3, 2006 | Dr. James Dobson

Posted on 11/03/2006 12:08:07 PM PST by freedomdefender

COLORADO SPRINGS, Nov. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Focus on the Family founder and Chairman James C. Dobson, Ph.D., issued the following statement today after learning the Rev. Ted Haggard had acknowledged some "indiscretions" involving accusations made against him by a gay prostitute in Denver:

"All of us at Focus on the Family are heartsick over the allegation, not yet confirmed, that Ted has had a private life with a homosexual for several years. We will await the outcome of this story, but the possibility that an illicit relationship has occurred is alarming to us and to millions of others.

"Ted has been my close friend and colleague for many years. He has been used mightily to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Colorado Springs and around the world. He will continue to be my friend, even if the worst allegations prove accurate. Nevertheless, sexual sin, whether homosexual or heterosexual, has serious consequences and we are extremely concerned for Ted, his family and his church.

"We ask that the Focus on the Family constituency and Christians everywhere pray for Ted and his loved ones. Our hearts go out to all of them. Perhaps the allegations are false and the circumstances are not as we have heard. Either way, the situation has grave implications for the Cause of Christ and we ask for the Lord's guidance and blessings in the days ahead."

Not so. I never relish the fall of a religious leader. You mistake my atheism for something it is not. I have enormous respect for many religious leaders. Haggard and Dobson are not among them, however.

Politics and religion do not mix well.

Some dumb drug-abusing male slut wants to influence our votes so he can "marry" another dumb drug-abusing male slut. How touching.

Liberal gays have really made it their mission in life to expose every homosexual who's not touting the party line. Get ready for more of this stuff down the road.

Neither did the guy in this story. There are different kinds of religious celebrities and they all have their own idiosyncrasies and overly zealous followers.

Oh, that's a terrible story. And the ACLU calls the victim an "arrogant religious fascist."

Their words condemn them.

What's Bakker going to do with that sword, or is he just using it as a cane?

He doesn't look good, does he?

He just plays a minister on TV, it seems

Dobson's milieu is radio, not TV.

His calling has been to minister to the American family.

Dobson has lived scandal-free for many years. He's a good man.

He doesn't look good, does he?

He grew older. It happens to most of us.

I don't look as good as I did in 1988, either.

But, I still look good.

Tammie Faye played him like a fiddle. The "event" with Jessica Hahn was a passive-aggressive temper tantrum. The stories of Tammie and Jim were legend in Charlotte.

A case study on the price of fame.

Never mind. It's the "Sword of the Apocalypse." You can buy one for yourself on Bakker's web site for just $200. It comes with a walnut display board and is made of "the finest steel."

Bakker has lots of stuff you can buy, there on his site.

"I try hard to limit the foil but do you ever wonder sometimes if the enemy gets the goods on someone and holds it until they need to knock another scandal out of the news?"

I envision each side with a list of potential items like this.

The revelation gets released as necessary.

I really, really, really hate the TV preachers. Thieves, liars, snakes and vermin, almost to a man.

I happen to agree! They are nothing but "carnival hucksters". I find it sad that there are people who need a side show and a bunch of trinkets to fulfill their religious needs. These Mega Churches do not provide the community togetherness or family values we need in this day and age.

The Mega Church is more about money, more money so they can expand, bring in a better band next month or a new hi tech lighting system and more smoke and mirrors! No way the preacher personnaly knows anybody waking through his doors unless they have donated large amounts of money to him!

First time I saw W. J. Clinton I had the same feeling about him, slick, slimy snake oil. When he continually cried out "I feel your pain" I knew I was right about him! Just another TV Preacher! And the sad thing is ... People Believed Him!

"IF" it influences the election (as the lefties hope) I think it will influence people to vote to protect marriage from those who choose lifestyles such as his. For most, it is a very sad lifestyle filled with high promiscuity and self-destructive behavoir. Pray for the gay community, they are broken people who need God's love.

"It's time to end celebrity Christianity."

Pretty hard to see that, with all the money and fame it offers.

Books, mansions, private planes, tv stardom, stadiums full of screaming followers.

I know a young man who would disagree with you. He was raised, for his first 6 years, by the principles laid out in Dobson's book. He still has scars on his back.

After 6 years, he ended up in a hospital, and his father ended up in prison. He was taken in by an excellent foster family, and is now a very fine young man.

I'm sure Dobson did not mean for that to happen to this boy, but it did. I guess his father got carried away by giving the boy "something to cry about."

Do I blame Dobson? I do. Do I consider that a scandal? I do.

The boy is not alone, either. Dobson is not blameless in this regard. Jesus did not say, "Suffer, little children." He said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me."

You are welcome to think anything you wish about James Dobson. I have my own opinion.

1988, eh? Wow. I was just 43 then. I'm sad to say that I don't look as good as I did then, either. Do I still look good? Well, I've noticed that the cute checkers at the supermarket aren't flirting with me any more. More's the pity.

You need to read Dobson's books then. He argues against physical punishment except in cases of extreme disobedience. Physical punishment is reserved for rare times so that it has an effect.

I think you mistake Dobson for someon else.
