I am 2 hours post-op surgery.
The last words I heard before going under anesthesia were: "Quit Smoking"..from the anestheseologist.
The first words I heard coming out of the anesthesia, again by the anestheseologist, were "QUIT SMOKING".
Please...no pros\cons of smoking. Perhaps I'm too close to the surgery but, smoking now dries out my mouth, taste absolutely rotten and gives me a headache. I now have very little desire to smoke.
Please, no comments about no desire.
I don't think what the anestheseologist did is right. It's not his call to get me to quit smoking, it's mine...if and when I'm ready.
Is what he did legal ?
Listen, Im a smoker. Do I like when my doctors tell me to quit smoking? No, I feel its my choice and I'll quit when Im ready... HOWEVER, I do understand why they say it.
And just for a kicker, Im an RN and work on a respiratory unit. I just dont agree with your level of angst over this.

Good grief. Get over it.
And quit smoking!!!
not the point
How about suggesting and advising your kids while they are under the influence of a powerful drug.
That OK with you?
BTW, anesthetists are not generally authorized to give medical advice to another doctors patient. They are there to do a specific job.
What happens, is that they create a detailed Bio on each patient, and they often find personal things that they don't like when they do the interview. The ones who act on impulses to play with people in this way are doing no favors for the medical profession, and need to be stopped.
I am required to see a specialist regularly for a chronic condition they can't cure. When the doc lapses into th quit smoking, lose weight mantra, I chalenge him to stick to trying to cure people. To me, this is a great big "out" for medical people who want more creit than they deserve.
that's the point..i didn't agree to be one of his experiments
thanks mom
You'll notice that the only 'good' advice on this thread is advice to sue.
Something tells me we're gonna read about this case in a few months.
'Waaahhhhh! A doctor made me quit smoking when I didn't wanna!'
Oh, sorry - you were saying? And the %^&#ing anesthesiologist I had to go to at a pain clinic a couple (three?) years back ... well ... if I ever see him on the street I'm gonna kick his little Korean ass.
His two treatments (spinal injections) were failures and the maggot told me basically "too bad, a 3rd one would be useless and don't come back, don't call and NO I'm not writing you any RXs" - in short, go to hell - all because I didn't have Insurance and didn't have $200K for spinal surgery.
And I'll pay the fluckers bill when hell freezes over. Grrrrrrrrr
:-)
If I was your mom I'd paddle your ass for throwing a tantrum.
ping
that's a stretch....do you approve of using a date rape drug to get laid ?
What "experiment" is that? Truly, I am not following you...
LOL I love FR...
LOL
Awwww, C'mon now.. I read a couple of posts suggesting that anesthesiologists are now trying to convert conservatives to liberals... now THAT'S something to sue over.

My father, who is a healthy 81 God bless him, went to a doctor about twenty years ago who told him he needed to lose 20 pounds. My dad responded that the doctor looked like he needed to lose 30.
This person quit smoking, and took up eating.....he's MUCH healthier now.....
I am 2 hours post-op surgery.
