Chowchilla, Calif. -- A woman claims she found part of a human finger in a sandwich she bought at a Subway restaurant, and health officials are investigating the incident, authorities said.
The Subway claim comes less than two years after a Las Vegas woman made headlines when she reported that she bit into a fingertip in a bowl of chili at a Wendy's restaurant in San Jose a claim that turned out to be a hoax.
Two health inspectors visited the sandwich shop in Chowchilla, about 40 miles north of Fresno, on Thursday after the woman reported finding what appeared to be a half-inch piece of a finger a day earlier, said Jill Yaeger, director of the Madera County Environmental Health Department.
The inspectors did not find any evidence that a restaurant worker had lost part of a finger, but the purported human digit was sent to a laboratory for testing, she said.
"They did not indicate that they found anything out of the ordinary," Yaeger said.
The Subway shop's manager, Anita Munoz, said she was in the restaurant when the woman returned with what she claimed looked like a finger.

Makes one wonder about the chow in Chowchilla.
Something just points to a hoax, but I can't put my finger on it.
I suspect this woman is just another money whore, like the last one.
How could someone chop off part of their finger at Subway while making a sandwich and not notice it? They wouldn't just push their severed finger under a tomato and pretend nothing happened in order to save face. There would be screaming, and blood, and gnashing of teeth.
Woman reports finding finger in Subway sandwich in Chowchilla
Just when I thought prestidigitation was on the decline...
Subway's meats are all presliced, are they not? It most likely would have happened at their supplier, if it happened at all.

"Excuse me, young lady, but there's been a mistake. I distinctly asked for the tongue sandwich."
Betcha Subway gives here another finger.
Sandwich preparers don't just put gobs of meat on these sandwiches.
They do it one slice at a time.(and very little of it I might add)
I would think something like a 'finger' would be noticed by whomever made the sandwich.
My guess is this woman is too stupid and too uninformed to know this has already been tried before. And without success I might add.
YEAH! If it had been at Quiznos, there would have been at least TWO fingers.
Not sure if I'm swallowing this.
I just may open up a place called Chowchilla Chili!
Yeah, you actually watch them make your sandwich; the Wendy's Chili was a much better way to go even though that lady is in jail.
That's all a Subway sandwich is: a great big finger.
