AFAIK Novell was the only distro that used RieserFS as a default filesystem. Now that Hans is in jail (and likely will be for life), it's a good time to abandon it. The ext2/ext3/ext4 series may be very slightly less optimal, but it has much wider support. Even "Partition Magic" has support for ext2.
