LOS ANGELES - Country singer Sara Evans on Thursday announced she was filing for divorce and quitting the Dancing With the Stars television competition.
Evans filed for divorce from Craig Schelske in Williamson County, Tenn., where she lives, according to a statement issued by Allen Brown, her representative at Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

Interesting update - thanks.
In the two American Idols that I recall where a top-12 contestant withdrew for personal reasons (oh, like an arrest or something), either the last contestant cut came back, or, like in AI2, they didn't do a cut one week.
I was hoping Willa, being the last cut, would be back. I love her smooth dancing - she's really learned some ballroom skills!
I saw that interview, and while it was somewhat lukewarm for those of us who are news junkies, this is a family show (OK, a few PG winks and nudges), and I really respect them for not bringing porn and other matters too advanced (we hope) for our children who also watch.
Yeah, that's what they did tonight. Took it right down to the wire without saying what they were going to do, even spotlighting the "bottom two couples" and making them sweat which one would be cut.
Then, very last thing, they announced: "No one will be cut tonight." Everyone comes back next week and all the points so far will count forward to next week.
Ha ha, poor Jerry Springer! He hasn't wanted to be there for the past 3 weeks. Now he has to learn two new dances in the next week and then go through getting voted off.
Oh, I didn't want *any* of it to come in to that interview at all. I was upset that Bergeron even alluded to it at the start.
Sara didn't *need* to sit down and talk that much - I mean, she probably did *need* to, from her POV, but not because anyone else needed to know the gory details.
I'm just so sorry for Sara for all the stuff that's going around now, from her nanny/friend and her future ex - they're trying to make her out to be a big liar or crazy or something. The "friend" is going to take a polygraph test live on one show!
Thanks for the results, such as they were. I miss the live threads!
Come to think of it, I agree with you about the interview. It did seem to be too much...
It was taped on Saturday, so things were still pretty raw at that point. I guess the Wednesday night thing she was talking about happening right after the results show (ha, I always thought they just went ahead and taped the Results show the same night - everyone still has their dancing clothes on from the night before and I can't imagine taking them off and then putting them on the next day!) - must have been her son walking in on the hubby watching a porn movie.
The tab TV shows had said it was her hubby saying he was taking the kids to Oregon and leaving (as in pretty much kidnapping them). Either thing goes along with what she said about her son being traumatized.
Today, the worst of the tab TV shows said that Craig would be "filing his own papers" and telling the world about Sara. He claims she had affairs with all these different people, Kenny Chesney and other C&W singers, and then her dance partner Tony!
Typical of the "player" to accuse everyone else of doing what he does. She doesn't strike me as being that kind of person, but who knows. Some of her pix from a few years ago show her looking a bit wilder than she does now.
Bless her heart - I just wish it would quiet down, BUT that if he really did the bad things, that the real truth does come out and it is obvious Sara got blindsided by it all.
Thanks for all that info. Having been in the competitive ballroom world in a previous life, I'm not surprised to see the apparent level of jealousy and mistrust that ol' Craig appears to be showing. The sparkly outfits and makeup are pretty much just theatrical costumes. It's not who you are.
Some of the quietest people (me included) transformed in appearance with all that stuff, but just returned to being "just us" once the performance is over. It's endlessly frustrating. Of course, there were our share of ... uh ... loose men and women, but I can usually spot them. Sara doesn't have that look. Heck, even her arm styling in the rumba was SO conservative - she was barely letting loose.
She's been involved with Hannity's Freedom Concerts in the past, and her song about the teen girl on the bus was quite pro-life, IIRC.
Thanks...
That's what happened?
What a dumbass
That's part of the fun. He told the viewers his goal was to learn the Waltz.
Now it's fun to see him not voted off. (be careful what you wish for and all of that)
I didn't see the results day. All the couples are going on? I don't get that reasoning. It will make next week's show even less flowing then the past one.
Always looking for conspiracies here. Is it possible they did that because Jerry Springer wasn't the one voted off?
This is funny. If he's still there, it's time to start voting....all votes for Jerry Springer.
She doesn't mention whether it was her who took the photos, OR that all of her allegations are totally irrelevant to No Fault divorce litigation (has Tennessee NOT adopted 'No Fault divorce?), OR that she has invited her professional dance partner from the 'Dancing With The Stars' show to join her as correographer on her future Country Western tours! Hmmmmm....alternate theory...
Several of the stars on this show have developed intimate relationships with their dance partners DURING the show & it doesn't seem too far a stretch to wonder if Sara didn't discover that Tony's tool was more effective than her husband's & that Hubbie might end up with custody of the kids after the break-up if the Court finds out that she'll be draggin' those kids to every Dew Drop Inn in Appalachia where they'd be up late at night with a whole lot of drunken Red Necks & other kids who don't even know what going to school means! So...she may have concocted the whole Internet porn thing when she pulled the plug, also pulling out those old Hard Man photos she took during their San Francisco days in a Hippie Commune during the Sexual Revolution to get the drop on Hubbie's foreseeably-credible claim for child custody!!
Divorce can make good people do very bad things...
The reasoning was that they didn't want to lose two stars in one week - it would throw everything off.
Since they had already lost Sara, they had to keep all the stars until next week.
Oh, was that the rhumba she was doing? She kept saying the party dance and I thought it was the samba. When they never play the appropriate music, it's hard for me to tell.
I really *was* paying attention all the time, lol - but just had a memory fog on that one. I thought it was *quick-quick-quick-quick-quick-slow* sort of like a conga line. Shows what I know!
That's why there are judge votes and audience votes, lol. I certainly do understand about the bling factor in dance competition. My best guy friend did that for a while - ballroom - and I never could "just dance" with him after that if we were all out at a club.
And you're so right about her arm movements - very conservative. I'm even farther towards Al Gore than she and Tucker Carlson were, myself - when having to do proscribed routines. I thought she did really well and was really starting to blossom.
She wasn't born until 1971, so I don't think she spent much time as an adult in a hippie commune.
And why in the world would you think someone with many major singing awards, some platinum and double-platinum albums, and who is one of People Mag's top 50 most beautiful people in the world would be playing at the Dew Drop Inn in Appalachia? Doesn't make sense.
"Sad...divorce is sad."
Not always. Perhaps if there was less religious and social pressure in the 60's concerning divorce, my mother would still be alive. "Until death do us part" should not mean until one partner kills the other.
You're right, though it wasn't intended to 'make sense'. It was merely a highly speculative alternative theory, from one with absolutely no knowledge of the facts, aimed at raising a reasonable doubt as to the Husband's guilt in the face of mis-placed & reckless allegations made by a likely-conniving female caught up in an avalanche of conflicting emotions...
It also won't make sense if we witness the opposite of O.J.'s acquittal: the conviction of the Duke Lacrosse players for rape, absent ANY evidence other than the Accuser's sworn testimony...but 'non-sense' seems to be a sign of our times...
O,IC. There is some other agenda in your posts than commiserating with Sara Evans over a seemingly raw deal she is having to endure.
Speculation without any semblance of facts involved doesn't raise any reasonable doubt with me and I have no idea what the Duke lacrosse "rape scandal" has to do with Sara or Dancing with the Stars. I doubt that she is crying wolf or hoaxing anyone.
Hoo boy. Not sure I included the "80-pound nanny" part in previous posts. Probably left it out on purpose.
In the first interview she did, the friend/nanny Alison talked about how Sara made her anorexic a few years ago. She said Sara wanted to lose some baby weight, so they challenged each other to lose some poundage.
Evidently, Alison became quite obsessive about it, getting down to 69 pounds. (I don't see how this is Sara's fault at all!) Sara got pregnant again and had to "quit" the "contest." Meanwhile, Alison had to no longer be the nanny and had to go into treatment for the eating disorder in 2004. Sara paid for it, then hired her back as her personal assistant in 2005.
Not only that, but Sara was such a good friend that she started doing Public Service Announcements about recognizing and fighting anorexia, even witnessing about her own "best friend" that she almost lost to the disorder.
So, today, on the TV tabs, the theme was that Sara's allegations (which, by the way, were said today by her lawyer to all be verified and on tape) are causing the "80-pound nanny" - her weight after treatment - to go back to her disorder.
Alison said "I heard what Sara had said about me ..." then the TV host finished the sentence saying she was close to relapse. I'm thinking "heard Sara and did what? immediately stopped eating?"
But the friend/nanny stuff didn't stop there. They got her mother on, near tears, saying Alison is near death - that Sara has caused her life to be in danger! Her father was on, too, saying how much they had liked Sara "before."
Can't believe I'm repeating all this - but I just hate what they are trying to do to someone who seems so nice.
Oh, I'm sorry, you're right. That was the samba. I've been snowed under with work, and just forgot which was which. It was definitely the samba.
Definitely.
(I soud like Rainman.)
Thanks for your other post, too. Sounds like a mess. (Poor Sara and her kids!)
