Comrades Open Windows to Linux

Linux or open source seems to thrive wherever Left governments rule. And as Kerala schools log Microsoft out and boot open source systems, Linux world is buzzing with excitement over possibilities in the communist-ruled states. Though West Bengal and Tripura have to go whole hog to adopt a free software model, ideological closeness is more than evident. Kerala, most insiders’ feel, is turning out to be Richard Stallman's happiest hunting ground. His personal vibes with Velikakathu Sankaran Achuthanandan, even from VS's pre-chief minister era, are in play. It’s a picture watching the duo cozying together in a similar attire — Stallman in a crumbled white T-shirt and VS in homely sleeveless white banian. Secretly, people do wonder what Class VII drop-out Marxist patriarch chitchats with whiz-kid of the Red Hat business-model. However, those who attended a Stallman seminar on FOSS, could clearly see that Linux and Left are on the same wavelength.

"and every icon will be a photo of Bill Gates."

Only if you can find a picture of Bill Gates with his "long-horns".

If you knew the slightest thing about operational security, or opsec, you'd know that protection of the physical is much more important than protection of the virtual, as the physical is typically much harder to obtain. Now that we are giving them the physical, for free and with your complete blessing, and they can put all resources towards obtaining the virtual, and all they need now is 1 spy to steal it. It's obviously a basic principle, but since you're so busy trying to give them the physical for free, it obviously hadn't even entered your mind.

Linux is an operating system kind of like Windows or Mac OS. It isn't a program made for designing nuclear weapons. I hadn't heard that it was being used for that, and I suspect that what a lot of people are calling Linux is really Unix, which is also an operating system and not a program for designing nuclear weapons. Programs for that I suppose are being written to run on top of Linux and Unix, and no doubt Windows and maybe even Mac OS. And just FYI, Americans did not create Linux in the first place.

The dangers of nuclear proliferation could lead to the destruction of the entire world, yet you fools make jokes about it. Now that you've shown the incredible shallowness of your character, why don't you run along to the cafeteria where most other kids your age are hanging.

You must not have read the parent article of this thread that indicated 1/3 of all Linux servers sold are used for clusters. Here's some more info as well.

But American companies and universities are the ones making the most significant improvements to the software

Hmm, I thought Linux was a "foreign fake" when the discussion was whether US businesses should use it. I suppose reality adjusts itself to your xenophobia as needed.

It says in the article 1/3 of all Linux servers are used in supercomputers, such as the ones used to design and test nuclear weapons. You feel technology of that caliber should be given away for free to anyone who wants it?

I have even more shocking news: details of advanced mathematical techniques such as "calculus" that are used in nuclear weapons testing are available for free to terrorists on the web!

Sort of. Although in the Linux analogy it is requiring that the recipe be free and enforcing that right through contractual and other intellectual property enforcement. This seems to be protective capitalism, unless the whole Intellectual Property regime is communistic.

Relax, dude. That's not how the world is gonna end,

It's the End of the World as We Know It, and I feel fine.(REM)

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane -
Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn -
world serves its own needs, don't misserve your own needs. Feed it up a knock,
speed, grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height,
down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government for
hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies
breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered
crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population,
common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its
own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the
reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright
light, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign tower. Slash and burn,
return, listen to yourself churn. Lock him in uniform and book burning,
blood letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate. Light a candle,
light a motive. Step down, step down. Watch a heel crush, crush. Uh oh,
this means no fear - cavalier. Renegade and steer clear! A tournament,
a tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives
and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide. Mount St. Edelite.
Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic,
slam, but neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine...fine...

(It's time I had some time alone)

So you feel justified in joking about it? What if the North Koreans only nuke Japan and not the U.S., is it still funny? Iran takes out Israel, are we supposed to laugh then too?

This must be something you support too, you sure seem excited. I guess you believe our scientists should post our complete mathematical equations for nuclear devices for them to download free like they do their supercomputer software? What else should we be giving them for free, in your opinion?

Yes, and in previous posts, you've also recommended CDE over Gnome/KDE because the latter are evil freeware! hahahahaha....

Actually it's should be an easy decision, even for you. CDE uses a lot less resources, and on a server or a computational workstation a GUI is only a resource hog. At least that's what you anti-M$ fanatics are always claiming, what, doesn't apply now? Plus it doesn't come from that radical leftist Stallman or from overseas, so unless you prefer Stallman's cloneware I don't see what your problem is. For high performance government work it's far superior.

And how is it exactly that we are supposed to stop other countries from using off the shelf technology available everywhere to make their own supercomputers?

Okay. Stallman and Gates both have leftist political leanings. Discuss :)

Through in Jobs as well....the only thing left is to not run computers at all!!!! Its all a communist plot to invade our minds through MySpace pages and capture our youth while they infilitrate our hard drives with communist viruses.

Linux is a commnist plot - I have heard it all ;) This guy is crazy...
