How Big was that ZOT?

Posted on 10/08/2006 12:27:30 AM PDT by wonder505

Lotsw of questions for TXNMA. I'd send him an email, but can't find one for him.

Hi:

Recently, I got interested in the OKC bombing, again when I saw how it was being misused in discussions of the collapse of the WTC.

Looking at some websites, I couldn't believe how badly the'd mischaracterize the Eglin Blast Effects Study. We can all thank Jasper for that. What was particularly hilarious was there'd be statements about how official the so-called EBES was and then they'd quote Jasper's article that made clear (if they'd read it) that it wasn't any kind of official study at all. It was just a report written by somebody who'd gotten information from Partin.

So doing some rooting around, I came across your work for the OKCBIC.

I haven't read the OKCBIC report. But I've looked over your postings here.

It appears from them that your main issue with the FEMA/ASCE report is that they started from the wrong size of crater. I guess my first question is this --- if they started with the right size of crater would the rest of their report be correct?

What's your range of estimates for diameter and depth for the crater?

What's the largest value you believe plausible?

For that size crater, what's your estimate of the size of the bomb in TNT equivalent bombs? Reading over some of your postings from 2001, I noticed that this question was asked of you, but never answered.

What references do you have for the size of the bomb in TNT equivalent? As you know, FEMA compared their crater size to three tests that were part of the standard US army reference TM5-855-1

Where do you place the center of the crater? As you know, the standoff distance is much, much more important than the size of the bomb. Do you agree with FEMA's placement?

What's your conversion factor for ANFO to equivalent TNT? Standard references put it at 0.8. Partin puts it at about 33%, and Culbertson puts it at about 37%

Do you have an equivalence factor for AN Nitromethane? I don't have one.

What's your take on the Michels book on McVeigh?

I found a reference to an article by J.D.Cash on the 'net that had drawings made by McVeigh of the bomb. www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=22963 That puts the bomb at about equiv of 5000 lbs of TNT. Any comments.

Similarly, any comments on so-called proffer by Nichols that seems to independently match McVeigh? http://talkleft.com/new_archives/008877.html

What's your opinion of the so-called Eglin Blast Effects Study? Do you think that the wall panels of the test structure are a relatively comparableto the floor slabs of the Murrah building?

If you accept EBES numbers, with a bit of math, he puts the truck bomb at about 1800 lbs equiv. of TNT. He puts the distance to the building from the center of the bomb at 14.5 feet. That's a touch over the FEMA distance of 14 feet. So that gives a hypotenuse of about 16 feet (instead of FEMA's 15.6 feet) from the center of bomb to column G20.

The scaled range for 1800 lbs of TNT at 16 feet is range / cube root of TNT equivalent or 16 feet/ cube root of 1800

16/ 12.2 = 1.31

This value is higher than FEMA's 1, but it is still lower than 1.5, which is the upper limit for shattering of the concrete. So you would expect parts of G20 to have disappeared --- which is what happened according to FEMA

You'd also not expect any other column to show signs of brissance -- which is also what FEMA found

On Partin's July 1995 report, he never explicitly states the distance from the truck to column G20. And he never explicitly places the center of the bomb anywhere. Looking at his figure with the blast pressures, it looks like it's between 9 and 10 radius' of his 2.2 feet to G20. That works out between 19 and 22 feet. At 19 feet, that works out to a scaled range of 1.55 At 22 feet, that works out to a scaled range of 1.8

I've checked through the New American. As far as I know, Partin never changed his location of the crater to match FEMA. Is this correct? And if so, do you agree with him not changing this distance?

As I see it, the rules of the game Partin was playing, required him to match FEMA's numbers as far as the location of the crater is concerned. The purpose of his report was to prove that even if you accepted the government story, it couldn't have happened that way.

I look forward to your responses.

The Clinton Justice Department has already investigated this and arrived at highly suspect conclusions.

Clinton burned 80some American Citizens alive in Waco, TX...(They had NO WMD'S and Koresh was never an imminent threat)
that "cause célèbre" motivated Tim McVeigh to blow up the building in Oklahoma City(according to him).... get it?

I'll attempt a germane response though not one that addresses the technical stuff you posted.

In his book "Against All Enemies," Richard Clarke states, "We do know that Nichols' bombs did not work before his Philippine stay and were deadly when he returned." (I believe that is an exact quote.)

It's also known that two terrorists were in the Philippines in general and Cebu City in particular, the city where Terry Nichols was staying.

My own opinion as to why the building was so heavily damaged and quickly razed and disposed of was to cover for the shoddy material and workmanship owing to corrupt government / contractor shenanigans. Oklahoma had been a long-time Democrat state at the time the government building was constructed, I believe.

This isn't your average zot...From what I can tell, he was arguing for a single ANFO bomb taking out the Murrow Bldg, and some unusual factors used in a "report" that indicates the opposite. (I think.)

That is against the moonbat position that it took multiple bombs to take it out.
