In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
rowel \ROW-ul ("OW" as in "cow")\ verb
1 : to goad with or as if with the pointed disk at the end of a spur
2 : vex, trouble Marked by lighthearted unconcern or indifference; carefree; nonchalant.
Example sentence:
With one of the best fastballs in the league combined with a wicked changeup, Lester roweled the opposing line-up for his second career no-hitter.
Etymology: If you've seen Western movies, you've seen rowels. The noun "rowel" names the circular, point-covered disk on the end of a spur that is used to urge powerful steeds to maximum speeds. But cowboys didn't invent rowels; knights in shining armor were sporting them even before the 12th century. English speakers of yore picked up the noun "rowel" from the Anglo-French "roele," meaning "small wheel" ("roele" is also an ancestor of the word "roulette"). By the end of the 1500s, "rowel" was also being used as a verb for any process of prodding or goading that was as irritating as being poked in the side with a rowel.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
LOL!! It was not me!
I'll get right on that, as soon as I assemble the squad of crack researchers.
All right, team! Let's rowel!
That is scary......
Too late! I'm already making inquiries! Expect your bills to begin escalating by the Holidays.
Not only is it scary...........but it'[s also not the first. The same thing happened in a different district yesterday. I heard it on the radio when I was taking the girls to school.........one of the air people commented about the timing.......interim report cards and midterms are right about now.
In fact interim report cards come home in this district today.
LOL!
what do the interim report cards have to do with it? a disgruntled kid calling it as a prank to avoid getting a bad grade?
The implication that I got from the comment, was kids doing it to avoid exams, because of it happening 2 days in a row. It was pretty much said tongue in cheek, IMO........but it was as good a reason as any, I guess.
He's a crazy Dane who besmirches my ancestry. He is what passes for humor in the liberal mindset along with goofballs like Al Franken. If they were Republicans, they'd be called mean-spirited and hateful, which they truly are. A+ for you! And I love Dallas.
Crack what? A+ for Xena, because she always cracks me up.
Whyisatexasgirlsquirminginherseatonhermarine?
Glad my website got a quick response! Hate to rowel you, but no bee costumes in my closet.
