In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
rowel \ROW-ul ("OW" as in "cow")\ verb
1 : to goad with or as if with the pointed disk at the end of a spur
2 : vex, trouble Marked by lighthearted unconcern or indifference; carefree; nonchalant.
Example sentence:
With one of the best fastballs in the league combined with a wicked changeup, Lester roweled the opposing line-up for his second career no-hitter.
Etymology: If you've seen Western movies, you've seen rowels. The noun "rowel" names the circular, point-covered disk on the end of a spur that is used to urge powerful steeds to maximum speeds. But cowboys didn't invent rowels; knights in shining armor were sporting them even before the 12th century. English speakers of yore picked up the noun "rowel" from the Anglo-French "roele," meaning "small wheel" ("roele" is also an ancestor of the word "roulette"). By the end of the 1500s, "rowel" was also being used as a verb for any process of prodding or goading that was as irritating as being poked in the side with a rowel.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
I saw one interview this morning and he was doing a great job. He roweled the fact that SOMEONE knew about the emails, and if it was criminal they were an accessory to this crime.......he, he, he. Gotta love the backsplash on the dems.
If only he'd kept a diary...
The second definition is only vex, trouble. In my haste to post early, I left in part of last week's insouciant definition. Because I am a little incsouciant, my own self.

Ignore that post. Typing with one hand while eating breakfast is a bad idea.
Puppy update....Peanut on Wednesday had NO platelets again. I went to visit her and took her outside for a walk. She ran right back to the door of the vet hospital when she finished her business, just like she does at home to go in. She is frisky and active, which belies the fact that she is seriously ill. Sad.
AAAAaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
A shortage of hops!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
so what does the no platelets thing mean again? i am so sad for her, that is just heartbreaking.
Best to stock up now.
I think this would rowel it up pretty seriously. I get to go check one of these out in action tomorrow! I want one!
You roweler, you!
Platelets are fundamental to blood clotting......she is bleeding out......she has a black tar-like stool which means she is losing blood. We all need platelets to live or every little cut will bleed endlessly. Every bruise will bleed internally......Same for us as our pets. I am not sure of the prognosis though. The young lady doc yesterday implied pending doom. I have no idea what they can do.
I'm so sorry, ti........
Good morning everyone.
The illness I had when delivering my son involved very low blood platelets. It's a scary thing to experience.
Hmmmn.
Bent shows up. And the admin moderator removes comment 53.
Coinsindance?
I think not. We should look into Xena about this matter. (Er, have Xena look after this matter.)
