In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

rowel • \ROW-ul ("OW" as in "cow")\ • verb
1 : to goad with or as if with the pointed disk at the end of a spur
2 : vex, trouble Marked by lighthearted unconcern or indifference; carefree; nonchalant.

Example sentence:
With one of the best fastballs in the league combined with a wicked changeup, Lester roweled the opposing line-up for his second career no-hitter.

Etymology: If you've seen Western movies, you've seen rowels. The noun "rowel" names the circular, point-covered disk on the end of a spur that is used to urge powerful steeds to maximum speeds. But cowboys didn't invent rowels; knights in shining armor were sporting them even before the 12th century. English speakers of yore picked up the noun "rowel" from the Anglo-French "roele," meaning "small wheel" ("roele" is also an ancestor of the word "roulette"). By the end of the 1500s, "rowel" was also being used as a verb for any process of prodding or goading that was as irritating as being poked in the side with a rowel.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I understand what you man...........but there will not be any gay sex scandals coming from him.........Delaware is too small, and people are too afraid of the repercussions.

No, RBCs carry the oxygen. Platelets carry complement and are used for clotting.
Here's hoping the pup has a spontaneous recovery ti!

RBC (red blood cells) carry the oxygen, platelets help clot blood. SG is the house expert.......but that is all the stuff I am studying for class. We start intubating next week, so we are on airway now. Busy, busy.

Home from work-

The scandal surrounding Foley
Seems to be coming undone-
Instead of him trolling for boys
It seems some pages were having fun

Was he set up by 'rat operatives
To be rowled at a later time?
Or was it when the FBI stepped in
That the pageboys dropped the dime?

Now one of them got lawyered up
And no one wants to be involved
In anything that is "fake but true"
When the whole mess is resolved

I do hope the 'rats and the drive-by media have jumped the shark on this one-I really want to see the FBI hand the "pranksters" and their handlers, whomever they are their asses for this nonsense. What a waste of money, manpower and time when it appears that there was no crime.

A+ for you. I've said it once, I'll say it again. Pelosi should resign. And what about Inouye?

Thank you! I don't know what to make of Inouye's copping an attitude-it is the full moon, and I guess that is why they are all howling at it...

Doggie update.....she has no platelets to speak of and her RBC count is way down. The end is coming, but she is so perky and lovable that the doc said he couldn't put her down yet. They are continuing the antibiotics, steriods, and IV in hopes she can turn around. I met my husband down there and we walked her and played with her. Hubby took the leash and I carried the IV bag. She is getting better care and love than Terry Schiavo got from her husband. What a world we have.

The vet assistant said that she was the best cocker spaniel he had ever seen - calm and loving......I hate to tell him she would be giving him a much bigger run for his money last week before this started. I can see the toll it is taking on her.

She may well be on the verge of making a very big transition: As big a transition as you will be making from "when hope remains" to "when all hope is gone."

We will be with you while hope remains.

And we will also be with you when it is gone. Cherish these moments.

Cherish all moments.

Thanks. I am planning to keep visiting her and maybe bringing her home for a few hours tomorrow. If they will let me. Missy, our Bischon, is lonely here already.
