Other than being potentially cute, what is a single positive benefit from a squirrel? Seriously.

Let me turn that around -- what is the harm for squirrels to run around in a park?

Other than being potentially cute, what is a single positive benefit from a squirrel? Seriously. In the wild squirrels plant nuts more nuts then they eat which helps the forest to spread. As this is usually not a desirable thing inside city limits where tree roots often cracks roads and sidewalks not to mention causing problems with the sewer and water system I can not think of one desirable reason to have squirrels in the city.

Squirrels provide food for Hawks who also work on the
rat and mouse population.

They make parks more fun, for one thing. I think that's a better answer than one would get if one asked your question about little yappy dogs.
