Things are quiet and peaceful in small-town Jericho, Kansas, but when a baffling explosion occurs in the distance, Jericho's residents are plunged into social, psychological and physical chaos. No one knows what to think, and fear of the unknown takes over the town, especially because its isolation cuts it off from outside help. When nearly everything they know seems gone, will the residents of JERICHO band together to face their unfamiliar and mysterious new world?

So how about we all agree, you hate the show, and you stop posting so the people who enjoyed it and are interrested in it can discuss it. Okee? :) Aww. But I was having so much fun. :D~

I could tell. Mercy. You have that "purple passion" kind of hate for it I think. :) I will tell you one thing. If the show ends up playing out that anyone OTHER than Islamo-Fascist terrorists did it, I'm not a fan anymore. If it's not going to reflect the REAL nuclear threat of the day, then it's liberal garbage. Terrorists post a far greater threat right now then China or North Korea, though North Korea, and definitely Iran, are serious indirect threats since they could supply portable nukes to Islamo-fascist terrorists who then disperse them in America and go from there. Jericho, for REAL. :( And as bad as the border is, they could get small ships on a beach on some section of isolated east or west coast line, with waiting trucks, quickly loading the nukes and moving them inland. Unless we got REAL LUCKY and the radioactive isotope detecting NSA satellites found the ship before it reached our soil. There aren't too many of those though. Failing that, the CIA and NSA and DHS would have to have heard nothing, which if they terrorists were quiet enough could be possible. God willing it's not. But at any rate, if it's anyone other than the terrorists we're fighting for real who did it in this show, then it's just total and complete bunk.
If it's a REAL hate Bush hit piece, it will have been done by the B-2 stealth Bomber fleet, ordered to nuke those cities by Bush, so there won't be as many Democrat voters in November. THAT would be a liberal hit-piece show.

No. they had sheeting over the door to keep the dust out. Yes it would help keep out the Alpha and Beta radiation. But any fallout coming down in the rain would collect in pools and the gamma would shoot in a direct line of sight right through them.

I always thought gamma was only in RAY form and occurred during the nuclear detonation. that's not correct, beta and gamma radiation are emmited as the isotopes decay. Fallout emits all three types, alpha, beta and gamma.

Fallout gamma radiation dose rates and doses for a burst with a total yield of 2 Mt and a fission yield of 1 Mt (hence 50% fission), edited from Glasstone and Dolan, The Effects of Nuclear Weapons, U.S. Department of Defense, December 1977. Based on 24 km/hour (15 miles/hour) mean wind speed. Shows and compares dose contours with dose rate contours for various times. Based on DELFIC (Defence Land Fallout Interpretative Code) calculations which are consistent with U.S. and British nuclear test fallout data.

Oh, and that was generic...not specific to any noted radiation reported in Jericho. I was just using 10rads after 24 hours as an example.

Islamo-fascist terrorists are clearly the obvious suspects. If it's any one other then that, it's a liberal hit piece show and not based on the real world we live in. Unless China that did it, in which case at some point we'll hear about the massive retaliation and how China's population just dropped to a couple hundred million, down 85%, permanently. I think that Islamo-fascist terrorists are the most likely suspects.
But, there are a couple of other possibilities, and I don't think they would ruin the show.
One possibility is a first strike by the ChiComs who don't care about population loss. Even an 85% reduction would leave China with close to 200 million left.
The other possibility is an accidental exchange between the U.S. and Russia. This is not so far fetched, as it came close to happening in the past.

IRL, we are sooooo screwed if it's more than a single city strike. Makes you wonder if all the gubermint will be able to do is drop "On the Beach" little red boxes to us.I agree.
Exhibit A: Katrina and its aftermath.
Individual citizens would be wise to prepare their families to ride out any kind of disaster without reliance on any level of government.

Note that with the exception of Denver and Atlanta, all the cities that were attacked -- whose pushpins we could see -- were port cities. Denver and Atlanta are major rail freight interchange points for containers -- Denver being Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe, and Atlanta being CSX and Norfolk Southern. Nuclear weapons hidden in containers could be programmed to detonate at freight yards in the interior rather than at the ports.
Someone has been reading a rail map.
Back in the Eisenhower years, the Pentagon did a study as to how long it would take for the country to recover after a general nuclear exchange with the Soviets. The study showed that it would take 800 years before the standard of living progressed as far as Europe had been in the medieval period, specifically the 13th Century.

That's the real world culprit. And an attack of this kind where eight or more major U.S. cities are destroyed would basically be the end of the United States as we know it. All military forces world wide would likely be recalled to protect the rest of the country, with the Navy and Army placed on the borders to prevent outright invasion, and it would take the U.S. Decades if EVER to recover, after losing tens of millions of people, and many major cities and infrastructure. Very scary prospect. :( What's scary is BS like this.
As for "terrorists" being responsible, what have we got going here, a sixth grade grasp of the real world? At least the one I live in.
Let's back up a minute here. This series is entertainment. Targeting 8 major cities on the same day is ten times more difficult logistically and financially than 911. There are persistent rumors that ten airliners were planned for the 911 event. Three succeded.
Of course losing even three major cities would be a major blow for the U.S., but nothing even close to "the end of the U.S. as we know it". what sort of grasp of history is that?
Pulling all American troops back to the continental U.S. to repel a subsequent "invasion" is so juvenile as to be actually funny. Laugh out loud funny.
It is the sort of moonbat speculation we laugh at from time to time from D.U.
I am truly sorry that this sort of "analysis" and speculation did not follow the movie independence day. I can imagine the truly knowledgeable analysis that we might have gotten there.
It's ironic that the sad state of the education in the U.S. was just reported on, in the last few days. Specially in science. And geography. The average card-carrying moonbat has no clue about the size of the continental U.S. and the role of weather, the level of fallout or even the most tenuous grasp of the total effect of nuclear weapons. How many are even aware that there were tactical cannons with nuclear shells that were planned to be used in the East-West scenario of WW3?
Lots of people on this thread need to get a grip.

Why is it always Kansas? "The Day After" took place in Kansas too.By sheer coincidence(?), this movie was shown on the Sci Fi channel tonight, Sept 28, and I saw it for the first time. Also good entertainment, but full of dozens of opportunities for the blowhard nitpickers.
I enjoyed it, too, just as I am enjoying Jericho.

As Katrina proved, prepared individual Americans are in the best position to ensure their own survival. Reliance on any level of government to save us is not an option.TRUE! To give Jericho credit, I haven't heard one resident ask "Where is FEMA to save us? Where is the President?"

The ratings for Jericho are improving week to week. It's apparently CBS's only new show to build on it's premiere audience so far.
It's a pretty good apocalypse drama with a compelling storyline and an intriguing mystery hanging over it, so I give it a thumbs up. Plus, the tall blond is really doing it for me, quite frankly. But I have to agree, the next nuclear attack movie/series must not be set in Kansas.

NOW you've done it....DU monitors FR, and the next thing you know, Bob Woodward will be rerporting that this is Karl Rove's (Karl Rove, you magnificent bastard!) plan to keep the dems from regaining congress! We must be careful to not give the DBM any ideas this close to an election. :)
