Education (A Loosing Battle)

Posted on 09/20/2006 1:18:22 PM PDT by halfthebattle118

Education

The public education situation in this country has become a chronic example of wasteful and ineffective government spending. It is a travesty that we have to relinquish our tax dollars to under-educate and indoctrinate our children. The public school system’s standards are so low that we have high school students who literally cannot read. The majority of the public school students have no idea about world events, government, geography, history, or grammar.

On the flip-side, their knowledge of modern pop-culture is amazing. The Republican idea of vouchers lends a solution to the failed school system. This idea has been fought and shot down at every turn. Why do you think that is? Billions of tax dollars are poured into the public education system yearly.

If we were able to keep that money and use it to pay tuition to better schools, the public school system would either improve dramatically, or it would cease to exist.

When you create a free-market product, many companies will compete to make the product better and cheaper. Education is no different. When schools compete for tuition monies, they will have to improve their overall curriculum. It’s just common sense. There is no reason for the government to have a monopoly on our children’s education. Not only is it a complete disaster, but it’s dangerous.

Anyone else ever make a typing error, or is it just me?

Nope, just you. We old timers don't post vanities for this very reason. It's always open season.

One typo and it's all meaningless. Anyone else ever make a typing error, or is it just me?

Sure, but there are typing errors and there are typing errors. If the point of your rant is to take down the horrible education system in this country, you best post something that makes you look a bit edjumucated.

Actually, that was not a typo. A typo is inadvertent. Using "loosing" instead of "losing" is a rather common event these days. I see it so much, I have stopped pointing it out. This is not to impugn your intelligence, but one should be sure that the choice of words and spellings is correct when commenting on education, lest one became an example supporting one's own argument. Another point is that a spell check will totally miss this, and spell check is no substitute for a proper education. (I'm being very careful to use correct phrasing and proper spelling and punctuation right now. How did I do?)

The education industry has never been better or more successful. Each year more money per, ahem, 'student' is being raised and each student is signed up for ever more years learning less and less.

Some numbers. The Los Angeles Unified School District admits to spending $20,000 per student per year. This does not include state and federal money that is won to support this industry, its workers and agents. I suspect that the cost of a certified high school graduate in LA is running at half a million plus( all moneys spent, divided by certified graduates).
The Newark, New Jersey education industry is so successful that in brings in nearly one billion dollars in revenues for workers, and local education industry supporters. Newark graduates, at unknown quality but I think we can guess it is low, two thousand students a year. So, a real honest to God High Scholl graduate runs over 750K.

A recent article on Chicago two year local collage industry reports success of %17 graduation after six years of revenue reaping. The head of the collage, said she was unaware of this success and didn't get, nor keep, such good numbers.

Following the socialistic Soviet production model, American citizens can expect every and ever higher profit, and increasing size and success of their education industries.

Everyone makes errors.
That's why pencils have erasers. Why don't you ask the mod to correct it?
