Willie Nelson Cited for Drug Possession Sep 18 1:06 PM US/Eastern

Willie Nelson and several members of his band were issued misdemeanor citations for drug possession early today during a traffic stop in Saint Martin Parish. The traffic stop was conducted on Interstate 10 near Breaux Bridge.

Trooper Willie Williams says troopers smelled a strong odor of marijuana when the driver opened the bus door.

During a search of the bus, Williams say approximately 1 1/2 pounds of marijuana and approximately 2/10 of a pound of mushrooms were located on the bus.

The 73-year-old Nelson of Spicewood, Texas; 59-year-old Tony Sizemore of Saint Cloud, Fla.; 75-year-old Bobbie Nelson of Briarcliff, Texas; 54-year-old Gates Moore of Austin, Texas; and 50-year-old David Anderson of Dallas, Texas were issued citations for possession of mushrooms and possession of marijuana and released.

Just a little after funeral smoke stuff. He and Kinky and Clinton had gotten all red-eyed at Ann Richard's funeral....now we know why.

The effects of Psilocybe mushrooms are similar to a mild LSD 'trip', that is, they alter the perception of sight, sounds etc. and change the feelings and thoughts of the user. They take effect after about 30-45 minutes, peaking after about 3 hours, and last for around 4 or 5 hours altogether.

At low doses euphoria, a sense of well being and a feeling of detachment occur, along with some mild distortion of perception. There is less dissociation than occurs with LSD and so less chance of a 'bad trip' as the user still has some control over his or her thought processes. Nevertheless, the effect of psilocybe mushrooms is unpredictable and depends on the setting in which they are taken and the mental or emotional state of the user.

At high doses visual distortions and vivid hallucinations can take place.

Most mushrooms containing psilocybin cause some nausea and other physical symptoms before the mental effects take over.

Shocking!

Who would have thought there would only be 1 1/2 lbs of pot on board.

"The 73-year-old Nelson of Spicewood, Texas"

Although the article doesn't state the arresting officer's age, I wonder if Willie felt stupid having someone probably half his age or ever younger, cuff him and reading him his rights.

Willie's spent the last 60 years searching for the perfect buzz..............kinda makes you wonder: if he ever totally came down off the weed and was given a biography of his life, would he say, "I said what?!? I voted for who?!? Oh, my God....!" LOL

Yep ---

If Bubba Joe were busted with that quantity in most states, that would be FELONY posession with intent to deliver.

But when you are a celebrity, I guess you get a free pass (or a ticket for a misdemeanor).

Don't forget "2/10 of a pound of mushrooms".
Those shrooms grow wild where I live. We call 'em turd fruit. Seems strange that something that sprouts all over pastures is illegal.

This event argues against the notion that marijuana is not habit forming. I remember in the late '70's Willie Nelson suffered a collapsed lung which was attributed to him chain smoking fat spliffs. He quit smoking pot for a year or two and said he could write much better music when straight. He said it had been a difficult struggle to give up the weed. Then he started smoking it again and I believe it contributes to him being a derelict and misfit. He was in trouble with the IRS for years. I don't think he can quit the stuff.

Will Kinky still make him energy czar of Texas?

Any septuagenarian who can still score his own pot had 10 times the energy of the current Governor who seems to only sit on his own thumbs!

They should arrest the owners of those pastures just like they arrest owners of pot fields.

Wonder if they were in Breaux Bridge for last April's Crawfish Festival or next April's, lol.

And how long it took the 5 of them to smoke the rest of the kilo before they got there.

And why don't shroom partakers get the same e. coli that spinach-eaters do?

Are you willing to do without beef, milk and cheese?
The shrooms are a part of nature. They sprout from cow turds.

Exactly, with those quantities.

Just asking for some consistency, not a get out of jail free card.

Willie Nelson bragged about playing golf on acid one time (well, he went out on the links, don't know that he was actually into the game he was playing that day).

I think the IRS thing was the fault of his accountant (who may have been looting his account).

And Willie did pay off his debt rather than filing for bankruptcy.

But I don't agree with him politically.
