Week Three College Football
Week Two gave everyone the earliest #1 vs. #2 showdown in modern college football history. The game, however, turned out to not really live up to the hype. This week we are treated to SEVERAL big games, some of which are in conference in the SEC, and a historically significant rivalry renews in South Bend.
As always, all rankings are from the ESPN.com Scoreboard page. I will also list any games of interest (FReepmail me if you want your team included and I will include them from here on out) and any other games listed in my Yahoo league.
GAME of the WEEK
Saturday, September 16th, 2006 3:30 PM on CBS
(6) LSU at (3) Auburn (-3.5)
This is going to be a fun game to watch I think. We have Auburn which has been the odds-on favorite to win the SEC this year against a very good and very fast LSU team that is looking to spoil the Auburn season AND put itself into the national spotlight. Both teams feature strong defenses, good running games and good coaching. Fewest mistakes wins this game. Im going with the home team.
Auburn 16 LSU 13
Thursday September 14th, 2006 (ESPN Thursday Night Game)
Maryland at (5) West Virginia (-17)
West Virginia gets one of their rivalry games out of the way early. This should be a decent test for a team that hasnt beaten a BCS School yet.
Its not in the pickem league, but Ill give a pick anyway.
WVU 42 Maryland 13

"... none of them outshine what should be a classic SEC slugfest between LSU and Auburn."
Agreed. I have been on the edge of my seat all week long. Having seen LSU play this year, I have respect for their skills. I think this will be a low-scoring game that is decided by 7 points or less.
War Eagle!!
I think the Tech/TCU game gets an upset alert as well.
War Eagle!!!
So proud of my Tigers this year!
Tech is favored by a point and it really won't be an upset if either of them win really....
Both teams are really even if you ask me...
yeah...
Hopefully it will be a better game than the OSU-Texas game was.....
Pre season polls and hype generates controversy and interest though.
I hope FSU wakes up and rushes for a first down or two.
yeah...but pretty much the top 5 or 6 would be the same right now anyway...
I personally don't think there should be a poll until after week 3...just because the poll that comes out this next week will reflect at least 2 games for every team in the top 25......
yeah but they have a veteran QB (if he played for Miami, they would be in the National Title hunt) and their backup wasn't as horrible as I expected (he has a future in the NFL as well).
It's an upset by spread and by ranking.
As a side note, I see that Notre Dame and TCU are on the Air Force schedule in the coming weeks. I'm gonna pick at least one of those to be an upset.
The triple-option gave Tennessee ALL it could handle. OH joy! College Football!
LOL
That's why I couldn't pick Tennessee over Florida.
Florida runs the read option offense.
Last week was like playing a high school team. 2nd and 3rd strings went in early. Everybody in uniform got to play. Md should give some indication of the Mountaineers ability. Well, for a quarter at least. OT D.Crissey will be out 6-7 weeks with ankle injury from week one.
Go Mountaineers
Please add me to your ping list....Go Buckeyes!!
yeah...
I'd like to see what West Virginia's run game will do against a legit BCS team, but Maryland isn't quite on their level.
Added :)
I don't know if Boise State is that good, or Oregon St. is that bad....anyhow, it's too bad that Boise doesn't have any of the 'big boys' on their schedule. Will have to wait till bowls to see.
Ohio St. and Texas really have it tough this weekend. Next week they plan to both play SE North Dakota St.Mining and Beauty University, the Mighty Lignite Curlers.
I think Slaton and Schmitt are the real deal. Loss of Crissey could be a factor though. A big boy who cleared holes. One thing about Slaton bothers me. When he stops to cut back, his legs get into some odd positions. Would not be surprised if a knee problem arose.
Mike, put me on the ping list please?
