You sound a lot like some Catholic kids I met when I was young. They told me I couldn't play on the church playground by my home, cuz I was Lutheran & that meant I was going to go to hell. They let my neighbor play tho, because an Episcopalian was close enough.

The secret to building those big Gothic churches was kept by the Mason's Guild & that cost the good Church father's extra cha ching.

Part of the problem is ignorance; however, the vast majority of it is something else.

Read the post again. I got nothing about my post from the Da Vinci Code, or any web site related to it whatsoever.

What one is that? Knights?

Let's just say that there was a recent movie, filled with Masonic imagery, which treated the group that at least two of them have been linked to very poorly.

I think we need to make a distinction here between Free masons here in the US and in Europe. There are various reason why Catholics cant be Mason and I accept that. However I have many family members that are mason and to be honest it really isnt a cult nor is there a US masonic conspiracy. It is a sad fact in some ways but Masons are dying out as one can tell when one sees the age of the membership at most lodges.

The only kind of Masonic lodges that I am wary of are in Europe for the most part. The famous lodge in Italy for example that was involved in all those monkeyshines. But besides that I think the US bunch are a pretty harmless bunch that in fact do some good work

Freemasons generally disdain Catholics

Which is funny, since my dad was a Mason with the dads of many of my friends, three of whom were Catholic.

Possibly more, but I can remember three for sure. And somehow I don't recall Dad telling stories of lodge disdain for the trio. Liked 'em well enough to initiate 'em.

What's your opinion on free silver, eh?

Lord above, don't EVEN get him started on the iniquitous window tax.

The anti-Masonic bunch on FR, are feeling their oats, for some weird reason.

Maybe it's one of those moon-cycle things.

I see the free-fire zone for the week is the Freemasonry Fraternity.

Well, flame-on.

"I was offered, and rejected membership."

More likely, you petitioned and were black-balled. Freemasonry does not recruit.

"...Catholicism is evil because we bow before statues..."

I suggest you review the first two Commandments, or doesn't your religion trust you with reading them.

I appreciate your point. I hold absolutely NO animus towards the Masons. My grandfather was one. When I used the word "cult" it was not to denigrate anyone. I could fairly be considered part of the "physical fitness cult" See definition #2. Top Web Results for "cult" Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1) - Cite This Source new! cult /kʌlt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kuhlt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies. 2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult. 3. the object of such devotion. 4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.

"Freemasons were important in the formation of America in several key ways, but they are not the foundation of who I am, or what America is."

True. If it were up to you, America would be a theocracy with Roman Catholicism as the official and only religion.
