He Used To Be Cat Stevens - And He's Releasing A New Album
The artist formerly known as Cat Stevens will release his first pop album in 28 years this fall. Stevens, who changed his name to Yusuf Islam after converting to Islam in the late 1970s, has signed with Atlantic Records in conjunction with his Ya Records label, it was announced Thursday.
``I feel right about making music and singing about life in this fragile world again,'' the 58-year-old singer-songwriter said in a statement. ``It is important for me to be able to help bridge the cultural gaps others are sometimes frightened to cross.''
The album, ``An Other Cup,'' is set for release in November. His last studio album was 1978's ``Back to Earth.''
``Yusuf's new songs are as moving and timeless as the classics that inspired a generation,'' Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman said in a statement. ``His spiritual quest is one of the most extraordinary stories of our time a life journey marked by courage, devotion and transformation.''

You're bad. ;-)
Im just a little bitter on this one. I once enjoyed his music at the lake, then he went dark, which is the perfect metaphor for Islam. He will most likely be branded for death and he will not see the irony.
Even "Morning Has Broken?"
"Sorry 6th century man"
Well, he was turned away from the USA a few years ago.
Not long after that, I was reading a Los Angeles Times article on some
imam who was under suspicion of terrorist activities (I think he was
from Morocco).
BURIED in the story was that "the singer formerly known as Cat Stevens"
was a good friend of this guy for years.
That little tidbit didn't get any play in the MSM AFAIK.
All the MSM was interested in reporting was how that poor convert to
Islam had been denied entry into the USA.
There's nothing worse than a guy that supports war orphans and their families.
"Cat Stevens" was interviewed for ABC by Elain Vargas (sometime around the
time he was turned away from the USA).
IIRC, they played a short clip of his "music video" of some of his
current music. Just him singing and some guys keeping tempo on some
drums...very sparse and dry.
Supposedly, this musical performance satisfied the dictates of Islam.
"If I Could Put Anthrax In a Bottle"
"If I Had a Hammer, I'd Hammer an Innocent Infidel"
I remember when Tom Leykis had all his callers send in their Cat Stevens records so he could run over them with a tractor. Seems like a hundred years ago.
Cat Stevens was all about celebrating life.
FYI
TCM has a movie on this eve "Harold and Maude" that features Cat's music. (a low budget DARK comedy)
Yusuf Islam seems all about propaganda for the ROP.
I base this solely on his release of a post 9/11 pro-islam video. (ROP propaganda)
It was the last time I'll listen to Yusuf Islam voluntarily.
I loved that movie. Thanks, I'll watch...again.
Mind-numbingly bad album.
you're bitter?......what about me....I had one of his songs played at my wedding....in CHURCH....and we had to pay the guitarist.....
Remember when he was on the no-fly list awhile back? The song then was, "I'm Being Followed By An Air Marshal."
"Religion Of Peace Train"
"Really Wild World"
"Two Blown People"
I used to borrow a Greatest Hits cd of Cat Stevens from the library. I borrowed it so much I was thinking of buying my own copy. It was soothing and calmed my stress level a lot. Then 9/11 happened. I haven't voluntarily listened to a Cat Stevens song since.
Darn....this reminds me of the good ol' days. Cat Stevens was an excellent performer - one of my favorite concerts!
