Matthew and I were going over his science last night. He was learning about the part of a sunspot called umbra. He says to me "You know, umbra means shadow in Latin."

This is his third year, as you know...he's taking Henle I.

I got a report from his teacher...he has a 98 average for the year so far. He had a test yesterday...he got a 31 out of 30. (He got the bonus question right.)

They play a game of some sort where they stand and ding a bell if they know the answer. He kept beating the teenagers, but he said he thought it was just because he was closer to the bell than them (he's shorter.) Ha ha!

Good for Matthew! Henle 1 is SERIES Latin! Clare is using Wheelock at college, and likes it a lot! She said a lot of kids are having trouble with it, but she thinks the construction of the language is like Japanese, so it's something with which she's familiar.

We just got back from taking her back to school. She'd flown up here to spend her fews days of Fall Break with us in AL, and we drove her back down to Naples on Tuesday, then spent time with her on Wednesday. SirKit chatted with the Deal of Faculty about positions available, but none are open in the Math Dept. for the coming year. Maybe later...
