The Hobbit Hole XXXI - Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Been there, spammed that.

Good luck Rosie... We haven't gotten anything yet, roads should be just like they were earlier.

It looks slick here! I let the puppies out and they were dancing on the ice on the steps. Vey amusing.

Weather weenies are saying we may get some sleet or freezing rain here tonight, but I'm not buying it.

It's drizzling. But it wasn't too bad...except the visibility problems. I HATE driving at night in the wet. Especially as there's always one guy in a truck who sticks his nose up your bumper so his lights blind you and WON'T GET BACK no matter what you do.

But I'm back.

25 here and a nice glaze on the roads.

I don't think the weenies know much of anything but I'm charging up the cell phone just in case.

My Dad flipped a car once, but I only saw the aftermath, when it had been towed to the shop. ;-) Took a turn too fast on an icy road and almost ended up in a pond, which would, of course, have been bad. He got lucky...just got a scratch.

Long time ago...I think I was only six or seven, so it was one of his first winters in Vermont.

I never flipped a car myself, but I have caused one to be flipped.

Once while driving to work back when I still lived up north, I hit a patch of black ice, spun out, and went into a snowbank off the side of the road. A car that happened along a few minutes later gave me a ride back to town, where I called my Dad to come and get me. When we drove back to the scene, there was a police car and a tow truck there, but not for my car. It seems another driver came around the corner, saw my car, decided "It must be slippery!" and hit his brakes a little to hard. He lost control and his pickup went off the opposite side of the road from my car, over a 10-foot drop, and rolled onto its side. He was ok, just shaken up. The police and tow truck were there for his accident, but we got the tow truck driver to pull my car out of the snowbank before trying anything with the other guy's pickup.

My car was fine, my Dad drove it home while I drove his truck on to work. The nice policeman didn't issue any tickets, since the ice was so treacherous... he told us that when he first arrived on the scene and stepped out of his car, he slipped and nearly fell on his... rear. :-)

Heh...yeah, I came close to braking pretty hard right by where the car was off the road here.

OK, we appear to be getting percipitation, but I dunno quite what it is. Something noisy.

Hey everybody! I'm officially a "nasty, sick person" according to some others around here.

I'm feeling pretty good about that, for some nasty, sick reason. :-)

Yah...arguments don't work well when your *first* reaction is to call people idiots, without considering that likely they're more or less on the same side as you.

My 2 cents. ;-)

Well, I didn't call you that. But I'm really getting tired of morons who blame Virginia for the RATS taking over everything.

I'm sorry, we blew it here. We know that.

Thankfully Republicans didn't lose anywhere else...

Heh...yeah, I see a lot of that, too.

I get annoyed with the folks that start Vermont threads just to bash the place, too, though I know that's not in the same league. Truth is, MUCH of the state isn't at all liberal. Libertarian, maybe, but not liberal. And at one point recently we had the highest per capita as far as young folks serving in the military goes, and that may still be so. But to hear some talk, everyone there is a commie hippie who burns flags in their spare time. And I still love the place, durn it. It's hard not to take insults personally.

Again, I know it's nowhere near on the same scale, but I do kinda know how it feels.
