Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ooh, and before the write-in, I hafta figure out what color ink to put in my banged-to-heck Parker 51...I ran out this morning.

That thing holds an impressive amount of ink. Can usually write thirty pages before it runs out. And if I didn't insist on having a wholebuncha ink colors, it would actually be quite a bit cheaper to use than a halfway decent ball pen. Refills for those are a dollar or two a pop - ouch!

Well, he shouldn't have dropped in without warning. Sheesh.

I hope the write in's fun! I got to 17k before church... dunno how much more I'll do between housework and playing games and stuff.

I'm going to write a paper on learning curves and highlight the fact that the time it takes to learn a new skill set (or piece of software) must be budgeted into a project's timeline. The inspiration for this is a stoooopid MS Project exercise I have to work on. The prof just assumed everyone was fluent with MS Project. It's a beast. Grrr.

What's really fun is being an IT person who's supposed to instantly understand the intricacies and idiosyncrasies of every piece of software every written. That was one of the challenges at the college, for sure. Practically every textbook came with its own software, and we were supposed to magically know how to navigate. Or at least, some of the professors seemed to think so.

Heh...just talked to my sister. They're going to go watch "Stranger Than Fiction", but she was indignant (as I kinda was when I read about it) because between us, we came up with that basic plot a few years ago - I actually have notes on it in the back of a notebook, and I'd just never gotten around to writing it.

Now if I do write it, I'm a copycat. Sooooo not fair.

Sounds like a good idea! When Clare was down to her last essay for college, she was just stumped. The essay was about her life, and any difficulties she had overcome. She's always had a hard time writing about herself, and was stymied because she hadn't really had any difficulties in her life, lucky girl. So I suggested that she write about how hard it was to write this essay. She did just that! They musta liked it, cause she received the acceptance letter a week after she mailed in the essays. ;o)

I think we have *some* of the same taste in music...ever heard of a group called Carbon Leaf?

They're Virginia based. Still making up my mind about some of the lyrics, but I really like their sound. Almost folk rock with nice harmonies...their older stuff has some Celtic influence (whistles and stuff), but its not as clear in the newer material.

I do like their sound. They get a lot of play on a local college radio station that I like. My only criticism is their sound is too much the same. That said, I've like every single they've released.

There's more variety on the actual CDs...I think some of the ones that aren't the same sort of upbeat quick songs are too long for radio play. But the songs on the latest CD are more uniform than the previous one - I've got their latest two.

I was just listening to this one - works for Veteran's Day weekend...

I see you've found a box of my things -
Infantries, tanks and smoldering airplane wings.
These old pictures are cool. Tell me some stories
Was it like the old war movies?
Sit down son. Let me fill you in

Where to begin? Let's start with the end
This black and white photo don't capture the skin
From the flash of a gun to a soldier who's done
Trust me grandson
The war was in color

From shipyard to sea, From factory to sky
From rivet to rifle, from boot camp to battle cry
I wore the mask up high on a daylight run
That held my face in its clammy hand
Crawled over coconut logs and corpses in the coral sand

Where to begin? Let¹s start with the end
This black and white photo don't capture the skin
From the shock of a shell or the memory of smell
If red is for Hell
The war was in color

I held the canvas bag over the railing
The dead released, with the ship still sailing,
Out of our hands and into the swallowing sea
I felt the crossfire stitching up soldiers
Into a blanket of dead, and as the night grows colder
In a window back home, a Blue Star is traded for Gold.

Where to begin? Let's start with the end
This black and white photo don't capture the skin
When metal is churned. And bodies are burned
Victory earned
The War was in color

Now I lay in my grave at age 21
Long before you were born
Before I bore a son
What good did it do?
Well hopefully for you
A world without war
A life full of color

Where to begin? Let's start with the end
This black and white photo never captured my skin
Once it was torn from an enemy thorn
Straight through the core
The war was in color

The twist at the end kind of threw me for a loop the first time through - I was trying to make up my mind if it was yet another blanket condemnation of any kind of fighting or what, and instead it was a tribute.

Well...I'm off to the write-in. Hm..wonder how this will go.

And I get to start out with my main character incredibly hung-over, more or less. But it's not his fault. Still...should make things interesting.

Well...it was kind of fun, but a total waste as a word count help. They didn't just *write*. It was all little games and stuff. Weird.

After 10 - wind 20-30 gusts to 40something... Maybe. sometimes it does what they say, sometimes it either peters out, or we get a little break due to some local pattern, the black hills shield us from some of it if it's coming off shore like that.
