Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
|
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yeah...that's the one catch to that movie. :-\
That and the fact that it's a little too close to the truth.

If everyone has a minute call the White House at 1-202-456-1111 and tell the President that you oppose this move. I just did.

Dr. Robert Gates will be nominated to fill Rumsfeld's positions. The threads about Rummy and the President are a little nasty this morning. Seems, defeat is really an orphan.
God Bless you Mr. Secretary. I will miss your press conferences. You took no prisoners and it was quite entertaining.

Well, bye-bye Republicans... you had six years to change things and failed miserably. Next stop, impeachment.
No, I'm not advocating anything, merely predicting.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I agree with your predictions.

OB bought me Steyn's book, it's my next one to read after I finish Oriana Fallaci's
The Rage and The Pride".I don't know if you've read it yet, but all I can say is "WOW". I thought it would be this erudite tome, and, instead it is this clearly written, terse essay on the dangers facing the West from the Mussies.
With the election results, her book and Steyn's book, it doesn't leave me with a lot of hope for the future although Missouri did turn down the proposed $.80/pack cigarette tax that was for the children.

We decided last Spring to move back to MS. We've been kinda lollygagging with the home repairs and such, then realized we really needed to update the entire place because the market is just so tight here. Then our major kitchen appliances went on the blink, so we have to do an entire remodel of the kitchen. That's ok, though, because it will be a real selling point. Thing is, it costs us less to stay here at this point than to rent anyplace in MS right now, but we have to sell this place in order to buy anything in MS because SirKit is unemployed (by choice), so we couldn't get a mortgage anywhere, and we need cash to do what we want to do there, which is buy property, remodel it and sell it.
Almost 1/3 of the homes in Gulfport were either destroyed or severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina and they desperately need more housing stock. We could buy a couple of places, rebuild them, and sell them. We have a distinct advantage in that we can do ALL of the work ourselves, even the plumbing and electrical, if we need to. They are allowing homeowners to do the work themselves, without the services of licensed tradesmen because there are so few electricians and plumbers around right now. Many of them lost their homes and have moved elsewhere for the time being. So the city and county are letting folks do their own work, then it has to be inspected and signed off by the County inspector before occupancy. We had been amassing equipment and supplies to do the addition on the house here in MA, so we have everything ready to go to get the work done down there.
We just have to get THIS house ready to sell, and it's a bear of a job, but we got motivated by our month in Alabama. We got used to the nice warm weather, and want to get down there soon!

Yeah, listened to that press thing... actually I am still listening to it. Of all the stupid things and the worst timing .... I am baffled.

Hmmmm.....
Saw a thread titled along the lines of it being the late '70's again.
I should start watching CD rates. My credit union is paying 5.15% on a deposit as low as $250.

I wonder if this wasn't something that Rummy himself did. Maybe he's being thrown under the bus, but it's also possible that he knows he'll just be a punching bag and has simply had enough.

Yup. Rush is saying today 'it is going to get worse before it gets better.'
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Rummy as a "civilian" commentator could be most entertaining. And useful.
To: Ramius
Maybe he's being thrown under the bus, The uber-leftists want W out so he could be purchasing political capital... as in a get out of impeachment for free card. But that seems very out of character for our Pres. Makes me wonder what the deal really was.
