The Hobbit Hole XXXI - Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I had my heroine kidnapped, thinking that the hero would end up saving her. Instead he gets captured and they get to have their first heart-to-heart talk. Um.

*snork*

Well...isn't that sweet.

My guys were supposed to save the world, but so far the bad guys keep getting away while they're all having snarky conversations and/or getting hitched.

That's one half the story, anyway. The other half is amnesia gal, who I really don't like much, so I kind of abandoned her on a planet on the edge of nowhere - one that's really hard to get to. I suppose I need to write more of her story, but she's...beyond irritating.

Have the ninja llamas kill her and invent a handsome detective to piece the rest of her story together.

Um, yeah, sweet is one word for it. Grr.

Its a scene where the MC is helping another guy fit his pack. The other kid is a bit, um, delicate and has never been on an overnighter hike of any sort. His pack is brand new - still has the tags on it. A poorly adjusted backpack is a nightmare. A good backpack and a good fit is an extension of self. You don't have to look or think about where the straps are or how to adjust them. It's nearly instinct.

That makes sense, actually. Poor city slicker kid.

Last night's crockpot roast became tonight's quesadillas. MMMMMMMmmmm.

Hey - can I ask you some Colorado trivia? Do you remember if there are any rest areas on I-25 between Denver and Colorado Springs? I always stopped at Castle Rock and the outlets. But my scouts don't care about shoppin'.

I only drove that once, sorry. I am pretty sure there are not. The only real rest areas on 25 are near the state borders. Since it's not a toll road, they want people to get off and spend. Just have 'em stop at a Carl's Jr or something.

Yeah...well...detectives don't really fit with the future bit. And she's got amnesia for reasons.

Also she really, really, really doesn't deserve a handsome detective. Or much of anything else. Hence my frustration.

I'm also really tangled up in my own logic where she's concerned, which irks me.

Is the main character one of the boys, or one of the leaders? One of the boys, right?

Boys. MC's name is Matt. he's fifteen, but will be sixteen 'next week' whenever that is. he's absolutely average.

Hmmm.... well.... maybe you should have it end up that her original persona is really truly wiped and some aliens planted a nice deserving girl who was dying of brain cancer in her skull but the memories from the original chick are encoded in the cells of the brain so she's got flashbacks. Or whatever. And of course all the other people think she's the original bad lady.

Heh...that actually has some elements of the truth in it. Truth as my story is, that is. She was originally truly evil, had her memory wiped, and is mostly so good she sets my teeth on edge. But she's starting to have flashbacks of stuff like bashing someone's head in with a rock, which naturally bothers her a bit.

Catch is...can she regain her memory if need be to save the good guys, without once again becoming the evil person she was? Or will she go insane in the process?

And she does a lot of pondering on such things. Which is why I get annoyed at her.

Bah, just give her back her memory and let her make the decisions. And make her less namby-pamby. And then send her to jail forever.

That's more or less what I plan to have happen, ultimately. Except the jail time - it'll be more of a banishment deal.

But to get to that point, I have to wade through a lot of explanation and angst.

At least the other character is pretty fun to write, when I'm not in boom-induced crash-and-burn mode.
