I always roll it from the base up...
peel and toss
There are some malware vendors out there that purposely infect your machine so you will buy their product. Don't know if Prevx is one of them. I use and would recomend "Spybot Search and Destroy." It seems to regularly detect more bad stuff than anything I have ever used. You can get it for free from Download.com or ZD Net.
Any chance for one of those tech pings?
Prevx is legit. I used to run one of their programs. Some of their programs are free for home use.
IMO Once you're system is clean, dump Norton, and give either AVG or Avast! a try. Both are free:
Google intcodec
You'll find several sites with info on removal.
Free Republic is not the best place to get such information. As you have seen, you'll get mostly jokes about condoms if you ask about trojans.
Google is your friend.
In this case I would use Microsoft for a recommendation. Also try Norton's web site.
If you are able to download, get Spy Sweeper from www.webroot.com. It's always done the trick for me. Whatever you do, stay away from Spy Sherrif. It will actually download all sorts of crap onto your computer and then offer to clean it up for a fee. Good luck.
try the free online scanner from TrendMicro.
It's a little balky for me (dial-up), but when it does run successfully,
it will sometimes find some nasty AND disinfect it.
(of course, it ain't the whole solution, but I find it a helpful part
of the solution to keeping a machine running)
I currently use Prevx1 v2.0.0.64 (latest). Trialed Prevx to remove "vcodec" earlier & bought into it & have been satisfied since. It seems to clean were other's can't
Recently switched from AVG anti-virus to Spyware Terminator http://www.spywareterminator.com which offers embedded ClamAV protection. Seen all the fakers in this product category, so far it's not bad. In case of emergency of spyware/adware, I have the old AdAware/Spybot combo as backup. Good luck...
There are a couple of online scanners worth a try:

If they don't get it, your best bet is joining a forum, reading what they require you to tell them, and take it from there:

Good luck- the people who write and propagate this garbage ought to be horsewhipped. In public.
