My niece is a nursing student in Tucson, AZ and I need help guiding her as to which laptop she needs to buy.
She needs the basics for now; MS Word and Excel to do her homework on.
A computer that is very resonably priced and of good quality is the goal.

My used-off-of-e-bay Thinkpad gets sooo hot and then it freezes. You bought my ex-wife on eBay? It doesn't really surprise me.

She should check with the school to see if they have an agreement with MS to provide software. At my school we can download MS Office for free.

I can recommend a Toshiba Satellite A 105. Rugged, well made a good buy at under $700.00. It has a Celeron M chip so its not a top of the line model but it will do for all basic needs. And it will even play movies!

Agreed. I'm looking to bump up mine to the 2GB max. Everything should run much faster. The best place to buy memory is Crucial. Competitive prices and fast turnaround.

I’m debating between a Toshiba Satelite laptop and an HP Pavillion. Does anybody have any suggestions?
My head is spinning.

Im debating between a Toshiba Satelite laptop and an HP Pavillion.Go with the Pavillion. I've personally witnessed three new Toshiba Satelites go Tango-Uniform. Save yourself that headache.

They have it for sale at Best Buy for about 550.00, is that a good price? If not, do you recommend another dealer.
Thanks for your help!

$550.00 is a decent price for a new one. And you're more than welcome.

NO!!! TOSHIBAS! ...because their quality control sucks donkeys. Plus their install discs are bloated with Toshiba crap with no option to not install the crap!

Letter from a Cordless-Customer
Greetings! I am the proud owner of an Invincibook. I take it everywhere and it's saved my life more times than I can count--did you know it's almost bullet proof? But that is neither here nor there.
While rescuing several malnourished and quite adorable Sherpas from the jaws of Everest, a giant griffin swooped in and snatched my power cord. I can only assume the power cord is part of the griffin's nest now. As griffins are likely a protected species I cannot ascend to it's lair and retrieve it.
Where could I find a replacement power cord? Would I need to order one or could I find a replacement at some local computer store? Thank you for your time and may the sun always be on your face and the wind upon your back.
Signed, Aubrey, Proud Owner of the Invincibook

My experience, don’t buy a Dell, they’re cheap junk with short life span.

Beat me by a year on my Toshiba laptop. I can’t believe it is that old already - but it says 2005 on the stickers. Use it every day. Still real capable for me.
