Week Two College Football
Week One finally brought some much needed intensity to the summertime months for most of us. It was a relief for some (Ohio State, Notre Dame) and a crushing time for others (Colorado and Cal especially). Now that weve seen most every team in action, now we have something to go on other than perceptions when making picks.
As always, all rankings are from the ESPN.com Scoreboard page. I will also list any games of interest (FReepmail me if you want your team included and I will include them from here on out) and any other games listed in my Yahoo league.
GAME of the WEEK
Saturday, September 9th, 2006
(1) Ohio State at (2) Texas (-2.5)
Ohio States offense is fine. Their defense remains a question mark. Texas looked ok on offense and their defense is seemingly solid. Might we have another #1 after this week? Yes, probably. While there was quite a bit of holding in the Northern Illinois game, there was more of an issue of the Ohio State defenders getting off of blocks and making tackles. Now sure Garrett Wolfe would PROBABLY start on a team like Texas (hes that good), NIU doesnt have the offensive line that Texas does. Going into a hostile environment with a young and unproven defense isnt quite as bit a hinderance as going in with a young and unproven offense, but Texas as a relatively experienced offense, just a redshirt freshman QB. Assuming he makes no mistakes, which is a hard thing to do in a game like this, Texas will win outright. Ohio States offense wont make very many mistakes either, but their defense is the major question mark of this game.
Ohio State 25 Texas 22
Thursday September 7th, 2006 (ESPN Thursday Night Game)
Oregon State at Boise State (-8)
This game should be a shootout. Neither team is especially known for defense. And we get to see that horrible blue turf they have in Boise very early this year.

Florida St. is apparently having one heck of a let down.
Wow..down 17 to 10 to Troy. Damn!
Texas needs to score here, OSU looks like they can score some points.
FSU tried to give it away to an unworthy opponent...but pulled it out, 24-17, in the end! I don't know if my heart is going to survive this season. They could be the new Kardiac Kids!
WHEW!!!
Was Miami's D that bad?
Is Troy's D that good?
or does FSU's offense just suck?
Mrs. Pharmboy and I will be at the Iowa-Mich game for parents weekend in Ann Arbor...should be a barn burner.
That should be a good time.Hopefully Iowa will show up and make it a good game.
OSU throws another TD! They are good!
FSU snuk by Troy 24-17
Clemson wasn't able to win the game in OT, losing to BC 34-33
ND destroyed Penn State 41-17
Games ongoing:
Ohio State 14 - Texas 7
UGA 15 - South Carolina 0
Tennessee 31 Air Force 24
Miami, TCU and Cal are coasting to easy victories.
More later.
Aw, it's only halftime. ;-)
And tomorrow, I get to see the Texans at Reliant Stadium. One of my teams had better win this weekend. I came a long way for this.
Was it here or The Sporting News forum that somebody actually predicted Arizona would give LSU trouble? This is without question their best looking team since 2003, and they're just getting warmed up. Auburn better get ready, because it's going to be a war on the Plains next week.
I couldn't stop laughing from the fan who had the "Lee Corso has a baby arm" sign behind Lee.
For those who don't know, it's an inside joke from the Dallas Sports Radio station "The Ticket."
IF FSU can't run for more than 30 yds against Troy, its going to get ugly real fast this season. They had no running game last year because of a decimated O line. I don't know what the excuse is this year.
I hope they figure something out as the most coveted recruit in the country, Booker, can't run out of a paper bag.
ok Iowa just got by Syracuse, but I'm not sure the best team won. Syracuse played well; Iowa usually struggles on the first game out of town in SEPT. Lucky VERY LUCKY to come away with a W.
Came here after the Hawkeye message boards got junvenile about the game, I didn't know this ping list or College Football discussions existed on FR...
I'm just glad I didn't have a stroke during OT and a 6 play goal line stand. the clones have to be looking forward to next week, but it's at our house...
Lessons Learned: I need to be in better shape to survive this season - this team just does not look that good.
Ohio is looking good. Go Big Ten.
We better find a running game.
You need an offensive coordinator cuz Bowden sucks. Georgia looks pretty good with Richt running things, no?
