Robert Bijold has heard plenty of news stories about pit bull attacks.
But this weekend, Bijold suddenly found himself fighting a 60-pound pit bull-boxer mix that had his 3-year-old daughter, Jessie, in its jaws.
It was the most horrifying thing a parent can go through, said Bijold.
The Bijolds were at a family get-together Saturday evening on Park Avenue in Yuba City when the dog, which belongs to a relative, attacked Jessie in the backyard. Other children were playing with it only minutes before.
Bijold was horrified when he saw the dog grab Jessie's head and shake the little girl.
All I saw was her feet in the air, said Bijold.
Bijold ran as fast as he could and grabbed the dog. His father-in-law Ralph Mueller shielded the little girl from the dog, while Margaret Mueller, his mother-in-law, whisked the child inside the house. Jessie's uncle, Sam Miller, helped subdue the dog.
Bijold said the dog did not bite anyone else. But to the family's horror, it kept trying to get at Jessie, ignoring the other people. He had no idea what provoked the dog.
Such good neighbors....
Yet another mere coincidence involving a Pit Bull. /sarcasm
Seems a gunshot or 6 after the girl was pried from it's jaws would prevent a future attack.
Three attacks? What idiocy. Someone should have cut its throat right there.
Wow, another Boxer-Mix dog attack!
Don't worry we will soon have dozens of posters tripping over themselves to proclaim pitbulls no more dangerous than beagles.
Big scary rapper dogs make the best pets for kids.
Pit bulls should be sterilized in my opinion. I had a run in with one, one time.

Bite me, you die.
What's the condition of the little girl?
Well, "something" provoked the dog that's for sure. Perhaps little Jessie threw a rock at it, pulled its tail or ears? (I don't believe for an instance it was because she tried to pet this Bully.)
Rule 1: Never trust ANY dog. All dogs at some point go "off" on someone for no discernable reason.
Rule 2: Pit bulls DO MORE DAMAGE when they go "off" on someone.
Rule 3: Don't let your kids play with pit bulls. Period.
Good question. It seems more people are aroused by the doig in question than what happened to the little girl. I pray she will be OK.
"Bijold said the dog did not bite anyone else. But to the family's horror, it kept trying to get at Jessie, ignoring the other people. He had no idea what provoked the dog."
The little girl triggered it's prey instinct, maybe with a high pitched squeal or something. Doesn't really matter does it, now? The dog is now an activated predator that sees small children as prey. It can never be trusted with humans again, PUT IT DOWN!
"rapper dogs"
i'm sorry, but that gives me a hysterical mental image of a dog with a thick chain holdin it down on his corner with his boys, or "his dogs" if u will
hee hee hee
The "something" that provoked the dog could be only a smell.
Some dogs get wildly excited around infants and the peculiar odor infants have.
Therefore, NEVER let your dog get near an infant unattended.
Even my mini pin is bad on this note.
Yeah, it's the little girl's fault she got mauled.
Sheesh.....
Don't overlook the benefits of the breed -- they are so good at guarding meth labs.
