The spca can handle an estimated 60,000 horses per year that will flood the market? And find them all suitable homes? Wow, most of the rescue places around me have had the same 10 or so horses for many years because no one wants lame, sick, dangerous or old horses.

You can call the spca here in my area...tell them you're unable to care for the horse or horses they'll come pick them up. If they pick up a horse that's NOT been taken care of and is beyond the point of ever recovering properly...they'll put them down. They'd never send a horse to a slaughter house.
