BOISE, Idaho - A central Idaho rancher says 34 lambs and ewes were killed by wolves and he's missing another 124 sheep he fears also fell victim to the predators.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game has authorized federal trappers to shoot two wolves.

They're part of a new pack that may be establishing itself in a rugged, mountainous area of spruce and red fir just southeast of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area.

Rancher Ron Shirts, a 39-year-old Weiser, Idaho, resident, says he began finding dead sheep from his flock of 25-hundred starting August 26th.

He says, "The killing had to have gone on for a long time."

Though Shirts wants more wolves killed, state wolf specialist Steve Nadeau says his agents are still investigating how many predators were involved.

Am I the first one to ask if Bill Clinton or Dick Morris have vistited the state lately?

He needs to buy a couple of Llamas. They can reduce predation by 90%.

Interesting. Llamas, at first glance, appear to be pretty passive critters.

How is it that they might control/intimidate predators???

Importing Canadian wolves was one of the dumbest ideas ever.

They kick coyotes if they come too close, but they do sometimes lose. I've also seen what's left of a llama after the coyotes got done with one, and it was definitely a "hate" killing. I don't think a llama would do much against wolves, much much bigger and stronger than a coyote.

Thanks for the info...

There are several Llama breeders in the area up here; haven't heard of any problems.

I call bs on this. Wolves will kill to eat. Not kill just to kill. That is not their nature.
