The ***Official*** Weekend Singles Thread - Labor Day Weekend(Sept. 1-4)

Labor Day, a national legal holiday over 100 years old has Over the years evolved from a purely labor union celebration into a general "last fling of summer" festival.

It grew out of a celebration and parade in honor of the working class by the Knights of Labor in New York. In 1884, the Knights held a large parade in New York City celebrating the working class. The parade was held on the first Monday in September. The Knights passed a resolution to hold all future parades on the same day, designated by them as Labor Day.

The Socialist Party held a similar celebration of the working class on May 1. This date eventually became known as May Day, and was celebrated by Socialists and Communists in commemoration of the working man. In the U.S., the first Monday in September was selected to reject any identification with Communism. Then in 1894, Congress passed a law recognizing Labor Day as an official national holiday.

It has come to be recognized in the U.S. not only as a celebration of the working class, but even more so as the unofficial end of the summer season. In the northern half of the U.S. at least, the summer vacation season begins with Memorial Day and ends with Labor Day. Many colleges and some secondary and elementary schools begin classes immediately after Labor Day.

State parks, swimming pools, and campgrounds are all quite busy on Labor Day, as vacationers take one last advantage of the waning hot season. September is the month that marks the beginning of autumn. And, because of that, the average daytime maximum temperatures take a plunge during the month in most of the U.S.

DollyCali shares her "past"

Well..maybe a LITTLE bit! I am currently working harder NOW than ever in my life. The pay monetarily is ZIP. but I know there are other rewards. I am care giving my invalid mom & living with her in HER home & taking care of her home, yards, pets as well as her.

My first “jobs” were in junior high school. I did modeling and taught dance lessons.. Continued this until I graduated from college & then began a teaching career(Biology & Physical Education) of about 10 years in many geographical areas at the junior high, high school and college level.

While I was teaching in NC, I began my real estate career that started at a large firm in residential sales & ended in my own commercial business that dealt with Development, rehabs, and 1031 Exchanging. A lot of money was there and a lot of ego strokes, but deep down something was missing.

Following grad school I began a career in Hospital chaplaincy working with Cancer/AIDS/Hospice patients. Essentially, ALL of my patients died & it was my job to get them and their families ready for that transition. But this was the most rewarding career I had and it has helped me help others – even now – as I am officially “unemployed”.

Now it is YOUR TURN

Please join me and the other “Singles & their Friends” and as you visit this thread over the next fourr days(yes, we will have a ping on Monday also for anyone who wants to visit) to chat, visit and see what is going on with your FRiends, do take a few minutes to share a little about yourself & your work over the years.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Unfortunately, I'm already going through that step change drop in mental processes.

Thanks, the waffle fingers and the chocolates look great. I'm a little full right now, but waffle fingers with maple syrup would be great in a little while.

The time you get home (or to the bar), forget the idiots at work, and crack open a cold one...

Yes they do it is exactly the same model number as I think something like DP-8. In fact as I got mine from Ebay and it did not have a manual with it I down loaded the manual from the US Cusinart site.

Good morning all. singles AND NOT SINGLE(who I am pinging also). catching up quickly here & pinging a few with my "notes" of nonsence, shall I call it?

It's back for me also now Snugs(and so am I briefly). Company from Chicago for weekend. They were at the vacation house at the coast of Maine all month & are en-route back home. This AM I am taking them to my "gently used" store.

I at one time made a very comfortable income & spent outrageous amounts on designer clothes etc. NOW I dress better & for pennies than I did there. The answer is the Village Store. I can get 200+ outfits for 4 or 5 dollars & on 50 cent tag day.. some for 50 cents.

They always compliment me on my clothes/outfits & I just say.. "from the village store". SO, they are staying over an extra day to go to the Village store. Will take them there this AM.

The dress I wore to the Inaugural was from there. Original tags from elite womans dress shops still on.. originally over 500.. store tag mark downs to 129. I got it at Village store for 10 dollars. Not too shabby huh?

It was a bit SNUG(your dress?) & I had help zipping & pouring me into it. Now it would be loose.

They have their female Lab Heidi with them & we will take a 3 dog 5 person doggie walk after the village store. They have the only Lab I have ever encountered that does NOT like water. Wont even go wading. strange

Last night after the Sousa Concert we went for Handel's Ice Cream. Their pooch had its first yogurt.. LOVED IT. the store gives Free ice cream (small cup) for pooches. But they charge enough for regular ice cream to balance out nicely. A one dip waffle cone is 3.95. National Geographic voted them the best ice cream in the world. It is a small Ohio based franchise. I don't believe they even go beyond Ohio(not sure)

Yep, I'm trying to breath some life into it, but asking an engineer to breath life into anything social is like asking a liberal to be consistently patriotic.

Missed this Friday.. MUCH TOO FUNNNY! I have a lot of engineering friends.. Seems to be a draw.. my scatteredness & their precision.. compliment each other. Each time I get one of those good engineer jokes, send off to them. They send me the pack rat/AADDH jokes

for example, here is one that "Fred" sent me the other day

@@@

"I just wanted to let everyone know that I have recently been diagnosed with Age-Activated Attention Deficit Disorder (AAADD).

Symptoms: This is how it goes... I decide to do the laundry, start down the hall and notice the newspaper on the table. OK, I'm going to do the laundry...

BUT FIRST I'm going to read the newspaper. After that, I notice the mail on the table... OK, I'll just put the newspaper in the recycle stack....

BUT FIRST I'll look through the mail and see if there are any bills to be paid. Yes.

Now where is the checkbook? Oops... there's the empty glass from yesterday on the coffee table. I'm going to look for that checkbook...

BUT FIRST I need to put the glass in the sink. I head for the kitchen, look out the window, notice my poor flowers need a drink of water. I put the glass in the sink and there's the remote for the TV on the kitchen counter. What's it doing here? I'll just put it away...

BUT FIRST I need to water those plants. I head for the door and... Aaaagh! Stepped on the cat.

Cat needs to be fed. Okay, I'll put the remote away and water the plants... BUT FIRST I need to feed the cat.

END OF DAY: Laundry is not done, newspapers are still on the floor, glass is still in the sink, bills are not paid, checkbook is still lost, and the cat ate the remote control. And, when I try to figure out how come nothing got done today, I'm baffled! Because... I KNOW I WAS BUSY ALL DAY! I realize this condition is serious.... I'll get help...

BUT FIRST...I need to check my e-mail...."

now this may seem like a "joke" but for those of us who are AADDH, it is a daily reality, no kidding!
