Child Dies In Boone Co.Car Crash
A Raliegh County child has died as a result of the injuries she received after being a passenger of a vehicle involved in a traffic crash shortly after midnight.(08-31-2006) while riding as a passenger of a vehicle being driven by his father. The Boone County Sheriff?s Office is investigating the crash which led to the death of 4 year old Tyler Evans, of Clear Fork, Raleigh County, WV. He was a passenger of a vehicle, along with his 2 year old brother, and their father, Terry Evans, of Clear Fork, Raleigh County.
Charged in the crash was 22 year old Christian Javier Sanchez Rubio of Whitesville, WV. Rubio was charged with the felony count of Driving Under the Influence Causing Death after the child died today at the Charleston Area Medical Center?s, General Hospital. DUI Causing Death is a felony which carries a potential sentence of 1 to 10 years in prison.
According to reports from the crash scene, Rubio was driving his 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup truck westbound on WV Rt. 3, and Evans was heading eastbound in his 2002 model Ford. Investigators believe that at the time of the crash, which was just after midnight, Rubio was traveling left of center and traveled across the center line, into the path of Evans' vehicle, hitting it head-on. Investigators believe that speed and alcohol may have been factors in the incident
After being cut from the vehicle by members of the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department, the victims were transported from the scene to CAMC General by Boone County and Whitesville Ambulances, where the child died a short time later.
The child's body has been taken to the WV Medical Examiner?s Office in Charleston for an autopsy.
Boone County Sheriff's Department has arrest warrants charging Rubio once he is released from CAMC General where he remains in ICU today .
The investigation of the crash is continuing by the Boone County Sheriff's Department and the lead investigator is Sgt. D.R. Browning. Deputies are currently searching for a person whom they believe was a passenger in the truck driven by Hall, but left the scene after the crash.
I'm not asking about "Hall".
I'm asking for a source for the statement that the DUI driver was illegal.
Yep, thats the sheriff for you...he is easily distracted.
Are they kidding? How about death or lifeat least?
Let me guess--he will be deported so he can enter as an ILLEGAL again to murder more US citizens.
It wasnt in the statement. It came over the police scanner they were undocumented.
They can now apparently even check a Mexican drivers license through 911 computers, because one of the dispatchers checked it and said it was not valid.
They spoke of calling the ICE duty officer in Charleston.
Also, one of the investigating officers told me they were undocumented aliens.
I hope not.
The media here will be watching this closely. I'll be watching it closely.
I don't know how we can keep the court from setting bond, but I imagine it will be high enough that he wont be able to post it, and no bondsman would go his bond in the first place.
My bet is on the ACLU posting bond for him. Really, what do they have to lose but the taxpayers money who support them?
Oh. You know he was illegal because you overheard it.
That must make it true.
*rolls eyes*
Again, please don't be offended - but I wouldn't add "facts" to a story that aren't in print somewhere. There are plenty of folks living in the US with Hispanic last names who aren't illegal Mexicans.
I look forward to a follow-up post from you verifying your information.
You must think your eye rolling is cute.
Armedanddangerous is a reporter for a local newspaper where this accident happened. He is closely associated with the local law enforcement, and was on the scene covering the story, so chill out, he will likely be the source.
Look. You just can't believe what everyone posts or that folks are who they say they are (unless you like to see a host around the sun). That would make FR little more than a rumor mill.
I was not attempting to besmirch the character or reputation of armedanddangerous. I think it is the duty of every responsible FReeper to ask for a source. And I did so respectfully in view of armedanddangerous' sign-up date.
Sadly, there hardly seems to be the need or even a desire for sources when the person in the story has a Hispanic last name. Everyone is eager and happy to assume that they're illegal Mexicans.
And as I said before, I look forward to seeing the follow-up post from armedanddangerous providing such source.
Oh! And my eye-rolling is very cute. I'll show ya sometime if we ever meet in RL. :-P
"Everyone is eager and happy to assume that they're illegal Mexicans."
If they are in trouble with the law, then that is probably a safe assumption.
I will hold you to that offer.
We've got one like that too. He was recently suspended and they took away his badge, gun and bullet. We can still call him "Sheriff" though as long as he doesn't go anywhere near the Sheriff's office or speaks to anyone working there. LOL!
You're right RMDupree, it needs to be sourced. That kind of stuff needs to be verified carefully, too often casual allegations of 'illegal' and 'terrorist' are made on this forum and much of it is just agenda-inspired speculation based on surname alone... we wouldn't want to be caught in an error that could lead to serious allegations about our motives, would we?
It's a safer assumption than assuming they're illegal in the first place at least. ;-)
I will hold you to that offer.
You betcha.
Exactly. I don't want FReepers to be baited by trolls into acting like a bunch of fools. Next thing you know, there's a thread on DU about "proof" that FReepers are racists.
We're an educated bunch here, for the most part. And asking for a source is the first step.
Trust, but verify. *smiles*
They're danged cute. I've seen 'em.
But there's no need to tell her to "chill out." She asks a valid question. There's enough hysteria over the whole immigration issue. And there's a certain segment of FReepers who will fan the flames on this issue without ever considering the facts.
We've seen it happen over and over.
That's all I'm sayin'.
I just visited with Armedanddangerous and he is waiting on a call back from ICE for official conformation and as soon as he gets it, it will be posted.
