...Baseball fans thirsty for a good pennant race, a legit battle among potential world champions, should keep their eyes glued to the AL Central this September. Three of the five best teams in baseball are duking it out for two spots.
Actually, no need to wait until September. The final leg of the race begins Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, where the team with the best record in baseball, the Detroit Tigers, takes on the playoff-bound Yanks in the first of a three-game set.
Next into the Bronx? The Minnesota Twins, who have baseball's best record since June 10 (49-20) and are now five behind the Tigers and a half game up on the Chicago White Sox for the AL's lone wild-card spot.
The ChiSox are, of course, the defending world champs and have a veteran pitching staff that's built for September.
One of those three teams will miss the postseason: Tigers, ChiSox or Twins. Which one will it be?

IMO, the Yankees are vulnerable for a team 7.5 games up.
Its the Twins, all the way!
Ping!
Tigers are starting to make me nervous lately.
After losing 2 in a row to KC, I'm having my doubts.
Just don't ping Clemenza to this thread. His Metropolitans now have the best record in baseball and he'll never shut up.
The Mets' formal name is the Metropolitans?
From Wikipedia:
In 1962, when the National League added a franchise to replace the departed Giants and Dodgers, the owners and the fans of New York selected "Metropolitans", shortened to "Mets", as the nickname for the new club. These 20th century New York Mets played their first two seasons at the final version of the Polo Grounds before it was ultimately torn down in 1964. The Mets now play at Shea Stadium. However, the New York Mets plan to build their new ballpark, scheduled to open in April 2009.
Interesting; I never knew that. I always wonder what a Met was :)
ROFLMAO!
"Sure I've heard of grits. I just never actually *seen* a grit before. "
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vinny Gambini: How could it take you five minutes to cook your grits when it takes the entire grit-eating world 20 minutes?
Mr. Tipton: Um... I'm a fast cook, I guess.
Vinny Gambini: [across beside the jury] What? I'm sorry I was over there. Did you just say you were a fast cook? Are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than any place on the face of the earth?
Mr. Tipton: I don't know.
Vinny Gambini: Perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist on your stove. Were these magic grits? Did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?
I'm a Red Sox fan, but I still sent this to a friend yesterday:
Lines from the Red Sox Fan's handbook:
Line #1 Looks like this is our year! (preseason)
Line #2 If we can just hold this lead... (June)
Line #3 Oh well, theres always next year (late August)
Line #4 It was our ________ that let us down this year (after the World Series) Insert either Manager, hitting or pitching.
It's one of my favorite movies.
Vinny: "....when the two youts came out of Sac O Suds..."
Judge: "Excuse me, the two what?"
Vinny: "What?"
Judge: "Did you say 'yout'?"
Vinny: "Yeah, the two youts."
Judge: "Yout. What is a yout?"
Vinny: "The two youths..."
I believe you will find the Mets have the best record in baseball. Now that Wright's bat is back, there is no doubt that the Mets have the best 1-7 hitters in the game.
BTTT!
11 in the loss column and it will be Sept. in a few hours.
I don't think so.
