Warwick, R.I. (AP) --
An endangered manatee made a rare appearance in Rhode Island waters during the weekend, a state Department of Environmental Management official said.
The manatee was seen Sunday in Greenwich Bay off the coast of Warwick. The large marine mammals are usually found only in the warm waters of Florida and the Carolinas.
DEM dispatcher Michael Mahoney said the manatee seen in Rhode Island appeared healthy.

It is not known whether the manatee is the same one seen earlier this month near ManhattanPing

Might be a good time to shoot, shovel, and shut up, before they declare the entire east coast a restricted Manatee reserve.

I was wondering if it was the same one that had been seen in the Hudson recently, so I looked at the article, which said that it is unknown if this is the same one. Interesting that it can handle those terribly cold waters.

Interesting that it can handle those terribly cold waters.Something tells me that the *temperature* of the water wouldn't be a manatee's biggest problem in the Hudson.

Interesting that it can handle those terribly cold waters. And BTW,the Gulf Stream goes right up the East Coast and hooks east past the south coast of CT,RI and Cape Cod,so the water wouldn't be that cold at this time of year.

Of course. Duh, what was I thinking? Fore some reason I was thinking we were past the Gulf Stream. I should know better.

LOL
I was thinking of the ocean waters, though. But, of course, where the manatee is right now, as someone reminded me, the ocean is still warmed by the Gulf Stream.
