BOULDER - As a running columnist for the Boulder Daily Camera, Mike Sandrock had little interest in the JonBenet Ramsey investigation until he saw a photo in his paper's newsroom.
The picture staring back at him, Sandrock remembered the summer of 2002 in Paris like it was last week.
Sandrock travels the world covering running events, but this trip was used for research on an Ernest Hemmingway book he's preparing.
Beneath his Paris loft, Sandrock looked for motivation in a bookstore named Shakespeare and Company, a hangout of Hemmingway's in the 1920's where his thoughts and career once started to blossom.
Sandrock met many tourists in the historic shop, and shared several conversations, including many talks with a John Mark Karr.
"He was just a regular guy, clean cut, very pleasant in fact," said Sandrock.
The topics quickly focused on JonBenet Ramsey and Boulder, Colorado after Sandrock's occupation came up.
"He said what do you do? I told him I'm a columnist with the Daily Camera in Boulder, and he got so excited," said Sandrock.
Maybe excited was an understatement, as every word thereafter, was about the town and the story.
"He knew everything about it, everything," said Sandrock.
Karr recited many facts about Boulder, from landmarks to the location of the Daily Camera.
"I got the impression he had been in Boulder, then I thought he just saw the documentaries," said Sandrock.
Documentaries produced by CU Professor Michael Tracy, whom Sandrock knew, and someone Karr wanted to know.
After talking with Karr on several occasions that summer, Sandrock was no longer interested in the subject, but later agreed to put Karr in touch with Professor Tracy through e-mail.
"I got the impression he wanted to talk more, but I stopped the conversations when he got into how the girl died, I just was not interested in that," said Sandrock.
Sandrock said Karr never discussed having visited Colorado, and never got the impression that Karr was a murderer, only extremely consumed with JonBenet Ramsey and her death.
"That's the thing, he wasn't that different, just obsessive, even in Boulder you meet a lot of people that are obsessive," said Sandrock.
With the latest confirmation of the purpose of his Bangkok visits, I'm afraid he was working up to being a *real* drag queen - and I can just picture what his costume wardrobe would've looked like, can't you?
White feathered Vegas showgirl outfit; black and white polka-dotted strolling garb; red white and blue patriotic summer costume; and of course, a pink-and-white cowgirl outfit with white hat.
He said the DNA in her underware is probably from a sneeze at the store where they were bought.
Does Lee know that we usually wash clothes we buy BEFORE we wear them (with the exception of business suits, coats etc.. Clothes that touch our body....go into the washer first.
As we can see, they've had the case "underground" for years. Karr was pretty upset about the Teddy Bear picture....but upset to Karr meant "The only thing you don't have is my fingerprints" according to his correspondence.
Just my opinion but I see the actions of the father at that time as nothing more than an effort to make sure his DNA was all over that poor little girl.
This burlary happened after the Ramsey's had moved from Boulder. The story sounds contrived. The scenario described by John makes no sense at all.
Yet you are convinced the Ramsey's are innocent?
No doubt you are entitled to your opinion, but one would think that given your proximity to another murderer you would KNOW that your opinion is not exactly more worthy than those who believe them culpable in their daughter's murder.
Imagine the mere suggestion that Patsy meet with the man they supposedly suspect of murdering her daughter.
This story gets crazier by the minute, but most of the craziness is being generated by those being paid by the Ramsey's.
Is there a law that forced her out there to do a presser????????????????????
Evidently the two words, NO COMMENT, never crossed her mind.
Clearly someone in her department leaked the fact that there was a person of interest.
Again, the question I have is.....do you work for Ms. Lacey?
I'm in a hurry this am...saw on some thread, posted by somebody, that Karr's mother did not die, as has been thought, but rather his parents divorced and it was then he went to live with the grandparents. Do any of you know where I could have seen this posted...I cannot now find it, as there are so many threads on the subject of Karr. Thanks if you can clue me in...
I well remember the people on the murder kidnap of the little girl Danielle. There were people on the thread swearing that David Westerfield was innocent even after he was making a deal with the authorities telling them where her body was dumped.
As you can see, there are people on FR who appear to be obsessed with this case as well. Sometimes people attach themselves to tragedy as a way of getting some attention for themselves.
Hey, good morning.
I like you...just so you'll not think of me as an adversary,
But...
If you found your little daughter murdered, tied up, tape over mouth, etc. in the basement of your home after she had gone missing, you wouldn't touch her? Just call out to the police...here's my dead daughter, now you come down here and process this crime scene? That's all??
I know what my father or mother would have done if they had found me dead like that at age 6...just what Ramsey did. I don't have kids so I look at it from how my parents would have reacted.
But according to you, if they did, they would be trying to throw suspicion off of themselves for my murder.
Color me speechless here in Tx, Friend...
What are you doing on the thread surely not wanting attention, eh?
Lots of people are interested in mysteries and this is one big one. Lots of people want a good ending to a story where justice has been denied, no matter who they think is guilty. And this case is one puzzling case and there has been no justice for an innocent murder victim, a very young child.
What would Sherlock Holmes say?
I posted it:
" ... His own childhood began in metro Atlanta.
His father, Wexford Karr, married Patricia Elaine Adcock on Aug. 21, 1958. He was 37 and she was 18, according to court documents.
Their union produced two sons, Michael and John, who was born Dec. 12, 1964.
The couple separated 11 years after they married, and Wexford Karr filed for divorce in 1973 in Clayton County, saying the marriage was "irretrievably broken" and that the boys were in his custody. His wife received a $5,000 mobile home and $125 a month in alimony, according to court papers.
Soon after, Wexford Karr, then 52, married a woman 23 years his junior, Susan Simpson. But his union with the 29-year-old burned out in divorce six months later. ..."
"Elementary, dear Watson. Elementary."
I still love the fact, *only in Boulder,* that she quoted the one person who is still under the umbrella of POI-dom when she said, *Remember what John Ramsey says, don't be guilty of a rush to judgment!*
That was my paraphrase, but pulleez. He has not been officially cleared, ever. Just because a CIVIL court judge in another state, who didn't have the voluminous file of over 60,000 documents, said that a preponderance of CIVIL case-standard evidence leads her to believe an intruder committed this murder, that does not equate to factual innocence.
A D.A. should not project that bias.
Once again, power and money are dictating this case.
The DA did not hold a press conference or they would have have pictures taken at the press conference.
All she did was confirm Karr was being deported back to the USA. And that the investigation had been going on for months and that she had a good case against him. That is all within the guidelines of what a Prosecutor may say.
But we shall see what happens in the coming months.
But you are totally ignoratoin of know how the media works.
Any DA who says "no comment" to all questions will be asked questions like.
OldFriend can you comment on the accustation that you are covering up for Jon Benet Ramsey's killer? Try saying no comment to that question. If you do then I report.
OldFriend refused to comment on the accusation that he is covering up for the real killer of Jon Benet Ramsey.
You wouldn't last 10 seconds with a hungry media.
Do you know what happens if you just walk away? They report you refused to answer.
If ignorance is bliss, you must be very happy.
Don't forget the need for someone with magic powers. Someone who would know the Ramsey's were not home. Knew what time they would return, knew where the pad for the note was, presumably in the dark since turning on lights in an empty house would certainly bring notice.
