(CNN) -- JonBenet Ramsey's body was discovered on December 26, 1996, in a storage room in the basement of her family's home in Boulder, Colorado.
A three-page hand-written ransom note demanding $118,000 was found on a back staircase leading down from the home's bedroom areas, according to the late Patsy Ramsey.
JonBenet's autopsy report, released by the Boulder County coroner in August 1997, is the main source of what is publicly known about the crime scene. The report included the following details:

Not true. The Ramseys had been planning to fly to their country house in Michigan that morning. Their private plane was waiting at the airport.
After JonBenet's body was found, John Ramsey talked about flying to Atlanta with his wife and children that night. (The older children had flown in from Michigan by this time.) Who knows what he was thinking, but he probably just wanted to get away from Boulder. The police told him this would not be possible and he didn't argue with them.
The Ramseys did go to Atlanta for JonBenet's funeral, which was Dec. 30, but they then returned to Boulder.
I am not a fan of Pop culture, usually I just don't give a damn who's screwing who or whatnot.

One of the things that struck me from the very beginning, was the way the letter "a" was written. Notice how they are completely different on the two samples from the photo.
Whoever wrote the note, uses a very uncharacteristic way of writing the letter "a".
I agree. What many are unaware of is the fact that beauty contests for little girls are not unusual in many parts of the South, and it is not only a Southern thing. Who can fault a mother for thinking her daughter is beautiful? I am not any mother's judge. I know it is not cheap. I worked with a nice man, whose wife took her daughter to these contests almost every week. He loved his wife and his kids. He was a darn good man,too.

No wonder so many in America were obsessed with this case, as it made all parents feel vulnerable.
Here's a different take. The killer breaks into the house before the family gets home. Thoroughly familiarizes himself with it. Finds a check stub for John Ramseys bonus so he knows about the $118K. He intends to kidnap Jonbenet, so he writes the ransom note. Then he hides somewhere.
Once the family comes home and everyone is asleep, he goes to Jonbenet's bedroom to kidnap her. He drops the ransom note wherever they found it. Then something goes wrong with the plan. He ends up killing her, I guess to prevent her from being able to talk.
I could see the kind of person I suspect Karr is rationalizing this as an "accident" in the sense that he didn't go there with an intent to kill her.
I don't blame them for wanting to leave. I would want to run as far away as I could if it were my child murdered IN MY HOUSE.
Most likely the killer broke in while the Ramseys were out at a Christmas Party. He had several hours to look through family papers, bank statements, etc., learn about the $118,000 bonus and write the ransom note. The note was obviously written first, with a kidnapping in mind.
JonBenet was evidently knocked out with a stun gun to get her downstairs. Why didn't the killer leave the house with her immediately? Who knows, but maybe he noticed burglar alarm decals on the doors and feared that he would set off an alarm. (I believe the alarm had not in fact been activated.) Maybe there were people or cars on the street or a light on in a neighboring house -- it was Christmas night, after all.
Stuffing a trussed up child out the high basement window that the killer probably used to break in would not have been easy. At this point, he may have decided to kill her in the basement storeroom.
The parents' bedroom was on the third floor -- a long way from the basement. The brother was only nine -- not much of a threat to guy with a stun gun even if he had awakened.
By the way, there was a similar case a few months later, and the victim was a little girl who took dance lessons at the same studio as JonBenet. This time the mother -- who was the only adult in the house -- did wake up and found a man sexually assaulting her daughter in the girl's bedroom. She threatened him with mace and he fled, jumping off a balcony. The Boulder police were so focused on the Ramseys that they took no interest in investigating a possible link.
Great theory....makes alot of sense.
This killer wandering around the house doing a thorough search would need light -- a flashlight or turning on lamps and such. Obviously, someone up to no good would not want to be discovered, so it's unlikely he turned on any lights. So let's say he used a flashlight. No neighbor sees the light of a flashlight bobbing around for a considerable length of time in the Ramsey home?
The perp also would have no way of knowing when the Ramseys would get home. Again, wandering around for an indefinite period searching the place would expose the perp to being discovered.
And how did the perp get past the alarm system so he could get in and search the place? As far as we know, the alarm was set when the Ramseys went out. If it was tampered with when the family got home, surely Ramsey would have noticed. (It has been reported that they didn't set it again after they got home.)

A point which argues against a stranger wandering around the Ramsey house searching it. The stranger would need some light source in order to do the kind of search you and others conjur.

That sounds like too much of a coincidence. Do you know if the perp in that case was ever caught?
Leave her lying alone with strangers in the house while you fly to another state? That's what raised the eyebrows.
I read the autopsy report yesterday on smokinggun and it doesn't say any such thing. Perhaps you should read it again?
I guess in some places people know one another well enough to be suspicious of a light on in the house when the family has gone out. Where I live, no one would think twice. Anyway, a burglar can find a lot with just a flashlight. Exiting the house carrying a 6 year old child who is unconscious or tied up is a little more conspicuous.
If the intruder came in through the basement window, he wouldn't necessarily have noticed alarm stickers on the doors.
TO my knowledge the perp in the later incident was never caught. One of those Court TV crime shows had an interview with the girl's father. He was quite disgusted with the Boulder police.
One can't help noticing the many parallels to the Lindbergh kidnapping. The kidnapper in both cases took enormous chances, then panicked and killed the child when he was on the point of getting away.
I mean to provide a reference from popular culture to a practice, i.e., parents pimping their children out to pedophiles, that an author, Mario Puzo, included in a fictional work drawn largely from real life events.
