Terrorise this [Nicole Kidman and 83 Hollywood heavyweights]
Sidney Morning Herald ^ | August 17, 2006 | AdvertisementAdvertisement

Nicole Kidman and 83 Hollywood heavyweights are using the power of the press to speak out against terrorism.

She has joined 84 other high-profile Hollywood stars, directors, studio bosses and media moguls, including News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch, has taken out a powerfully-worded full page advertisement in today's Los Angeles Times newspaper.

It specifically targets "terrorist organisations" such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine.

"We the undersigned are pained and devastated by the civilian casualties in Israel and Lebanon caused by terrorist actions initiated by terrorist organisations such as Hizbollah and Hamas," the ad reads.

"If we do not succeed in stopping terrorism around the world, chaos will rule and innocent people will continue to die.

"We need to support democratic societies and stop terrorism at all costs."

A who's who of Hollywood heavyweights joined Kidman and Murdoch on the ad.

The actors listed included: Michael Douglas, Dennis Hopper, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Danny De Vito, Don Johnson, James Woods, Kelly Preston, Patricia Heaton and William Hurt.

Directors Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Michael Mann, Dick Donner and Sam Raimi also signed their names.

Other Hollywood powerplayers supporting the ad included Sumner Redstone, the chairman and majority owner of Paramount Pictures, and billionaire mogul, Haim Saban.

I understand where you are coming from. Indeed a good dose of cynicism is wise when dealing with celebs and the MSM. Thanks for outlining your reasons.

Wow, that is darned amazing. Some of the names you expected to be there, like willis, sinise, and woods. But others on the list
like bernie mac, stephen dorff, serena williams, william hurt, I found interesting because I never knew them
to engage in any political discussions.

We all like to show no mercy to hollywood stars who spout off with anti war and anti bush drivel, so
I give credit where it's due. Good for these people to sympathize with the jewish people and the war
on terror! World politicians can't even come close to condemning terrorists like this group.

Mmm I love music. the Alarm were a bit late for me .

I'm more Caravan, Van-der-Graff-generator,Incredible String Band, Family,Kevin Ayers....Hippy dippy stuff really. --- and reggae - lots of reggae and American soul.

I take it you were into the Alarm? were they like thaFall Welsh? there were a lot of Welsh bands about, still are. Shame John Peel died.

I saw them in 1984 in Santa Cruz CA with U2 and Big Country. The Alarm stole the show. Loved them ever since. One of the members still Mike Peters still tours under the name The Alarm. The reviews I have read says that they still put on a great show.
They were all from Rhyl(SP?)
www.thealarm.com If you do get a chance to see them I would love to hear your comments.

Ah lovely Rhyl - lots of problems there these days with drugs - more than most areas because it is on the North Wales / Liverpool corridor. Otherwise a lovely place (and I am not suggesting the Alarm were into drugs). They came just after the Punk explosion, second wave or something like that and I know were well respected. Never paid them much heed but I will get a download and give them a go.

Better late than never.!

We need to support democratic societies and stop terrorism at all costs

This is quite true, and I salute these show people for their action.

Folks, this borders on bravery for show people (I would define real bravery as the War On Terror as prosecuted by our President Dubya, SecDef Rummy, and our phenomenal men and women in uniform.)

Nevertheless, this is quite refreshing (and it must be rankling some America-hating Hollywood-types.)

.

A few more names I recognize: Bernie Mac, yeah! (I liked Mr. 3000 a lot); Eric Braeden, longtime soap star; Joel Surnow (exec prod of "24" - he oughta get it!); Lionel Chetwynd, who directed that great Showtime movie "9|11"; Gary Sinise, who does such terrific work with Iraqi kids; Serena Williams (where's Venus?).

I'll bet that Susan Lucci's name belongs there, too - I understand she's a conservative, too.

I was combing my brain, trying to remember who The Alarm opened for when I saw them back in the 80s...U2! I can't recall much of anything from U2's time on stage, but The Alarm put on a hell of a show.

They honestly had the best live show. I used to like U2 alot but I always thought the Alarm did a better show.
If yu get a chance, VH1 did Bands Reunited. The Alarm episode is very good. The concert at the end is unhooked. The funniest part is, everyone is a 40 something. No kids.
Ahh the glory days.

Are all of these people conservatives? I mean, no matter what your political beliefs are, it's time that we ALL pull together on this war against Islamofascism. I'm hoping they're not all republicans, because they SHOULDN'T BE!!
