PETALUMA (KRON) -- It now appears the only person ever arrested in connection with the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey once taught in Petaluma schools.
The Sonoma County district attorney's office is now confirming 42-year old John Mark Karr was charged with possession of child pornography in April, 2001. Other reports indicate Karr served as a substitute teacher in the Petaluma elementary school system.
Prosecutors say Karr failed to show in court in December, 2001. He's been a fugitive ever since.
Thai police arrested Karr Wednesday in connection with the Jon Benet Ramsey case. The little girl was found dead in her Boulder, Colorado home the day after Christmas, 1996.
I think this is going to blow up in the prosecutors' faces. Karr hasn't been placed in Colorado, much less Boulder during the time of the murder. His wife appears to be an alibi for him and his brother calls the charge "ridiculous".
Unless they can come up with a DNA match to the crime scene, I think this is going to be a big hoax.

You've already got two different stories about Christmas coming from his ex-wife and his brother. If the DNA matches, case closed. If it doesn't, then that may or may not exonerate him.
His ex-wife and his brother both appear to be alibis for him.... only one problem with that though... one says he was in Alabama, the other says he was in Georgia.
Either way, he's still going to face time in California for his sick doings there.
but I say we should still hang him.....
they must have evidence placing him in Boulder that night. if he was living someplace else at the time, they need to show he traveled to Boulder.
otherwise, what is the DA going to say? that's he's some kind of houdini who can be beamed into another state?
DNA would place him at the scene of the crime. I'd trust DNA over the words of any family members and so would almost any jury. If there isn't DNA evidence pinning him to the scene of the crime, then you're right that they'll have to build a very strong case showing he was in the area at the time.
I thought if they have DNA at the spot where it happened-you were there?
I'm starting to wonder myself if this guy was looking at hard time in Thailand at some hideous prison where the inmates are pirates from the South China Sea who have facial tattoos, missing fingers, and like to torture pudgy pink Westerners by submerging their heads inside a bucket full of stinging beetles.
If I was faced with that future, I'd probably confess to the murder of the Lindhbergh baby just so the US Marshal's Service would get me the hell out of there posthaste.
Back home in the US, I'd gladly face the charges of lying to a US Federal agent.
on Websleuths, it was stated that the Ramseys hired their own polygrapher, and the first test was inconclusive..they hired a second guy and that test they came out clear on.....then they revealed that LDT to the media......
the words of the family members are meaningless, I grant you that.
but there has to be other proof. what did he do, drive to Boulder and pay cash for all his expenses along the way - gas/food/motel - and then do the same on his return trip? sure, its possible. and he also needs to be able to answer every other question about the crime scene - how he even knew the Ramsey's, how he entered the house, how he knew his way around the basement, where he got the tape et al, how long he stayed inside to find paper and do the notes, did he try and mimic Patsy's handwriting from something he found in the kitchen? and on and on.
let's see what the test shows.

His crime in California was for owning child porn and failing to appear. While this is probably true, there's still a leap from being a pedophile to being a murderer. There are plenty of sick creeps in the world but not all of them break into homes and murder strangers.
I think Karr was fascinated with the JBR case (as are some FReepers) and probably bragged to some other pedophile that he knew who did it and gave x,y and z details. He may have done so to impress the pedophile that he was an important person in that "hobby" even if he's really a small fry. But the other pedophile gives him up to the cops, maybe as part of his own plea deal.
I'm just distrustful that this lead came from the Ramseys, not from law enforcement. The Ramseys are still desperate to clear the cloud of suspicion.
Shermy, I think the resume you posted is spot on - and look what he was doing after he fled the country. He's acting as a nanny in households with young girls! Definitely a creep but what other *murders* can he be connected to, particularly if he killed JBR so quietly and efficiently then got away with it for 10 years and had access to countless other little girls afterwards? Could he murder JBR and then resist the impulse after that? I doubt it.
He helped the eight year-old bathe at evening time?!
My, God! How brazen can he be to openly write that out? It looks suspicious without an link to the Ramsey case.

however, I do believe he was hired by the Ramseys....he probably had a gag order from the Ramsey never to reveal anything unless he cleared them....
it's been pretty clear that the Ramseys did not cooperate early on with the police....for whatever reason.....
He wasn't just a pedophile. He was deeply interested in both the Klaas and the Ramsey murders. That equals future killer if he didn't already murder JonBenet.
