The real Redbone
To: BigSkyFreeper
***A band that headlined a fair last weekend is accused of masquerading as the rock group Redbone,***
Nothing really new. Just after WWII a group came into a small NM town and claimed to be from the GRAND OLE OPRY in NASHVILLE. My Mom is from Nashvile and went to the show, it was all impersonators. Not a real Opry member in the group.
I also understand there was several groups going around as THE INK SPOTS.

It could have been worse.
They could have been imitating Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods...

Maybe they got Leon Redbone? That would actually be a better show.

BUTTE, Mont. -- A band that headlined a fair last weekend is accused of masquerading as the rock group Redbone, whose hits included the 1970s song "Come and Get Your Love."Thanks for posting. I was wondering what Ward Churchill's doing these days.

Didn't the rock group Kraftwerk once stage something like 10 shows simultaneously, with only one having the real band memebers and the rest having robots?
They all act robot-like anyway, nobody could tell the difference.

Meanwhile, Leon Redbone is saying "Who? I've never heard of Pat Vegas and Denny Freeman"...

Nothing new...
About 25 years ago, some guy just out of Joliet prison hooked up with his brother, threw together a band, and went about impersonating the "Good Ole Boys". They even had the brashness to play in venues that "Good Ole Boys" were already booked in by showing up early and they were known to run up very large bar bills in the process.

I think this is all a big misunderstanding....The band playing at the fair is not calling themselves "Redbone" but "Redboner".

Rockin' the Rivers underway
One of the summers biggest concerts, and "Montana's finest rockfest" is now underway near Three Forks. The 7th annual Rockin the Rivers, begins today, with performances by REO Speedwagon, Jefferson Starship and Warrant.
The event runs through Sunday, one day passes are 50 dollars, and if you want to stay all three days, it'll run you 120 dollars; campsites are also available.
The concert grounds are at "the Bridge, " which lies four miles east of the Lewis and Clark Caverns.

A band that headlined a fair last weekend is accused of masquerading as the rock group Redbone,Least ways, that's lots better than Milli Vanelli--the mimes who masqueraded as being a band.

The article doesn't say (but I presume) that not only were they using the Redbone name, they were also playing their tunes.
Back in the 70's I formed a band and called it "Blue Skye" We were only a cover band playing bars. About a year under our belts we came across a band playing as....."Blue Sky".
They played originals, had a manager, and connections.
We changed our name (although I doubt that neither of two small-time bands could legally enforce the non-trademarked name against the other).
