NORTHBROOK, Ill. (Aug. 8, 2006) -- Roger Goodell was chosen as the NFL's next commissioner Tuesday, succeeding the man who groomed him for the job, Paul Tagliabue.
The 47-year-old Goodell worked his way from a public relations intern to perhaps the most powerful job in sports. He was unanimously elected by the league's 32 owners on the fifth ballot.
The son of former U.S. Sen. Charles Goodell of New York, he has been Tagliabue's top assistant, particularly on expansion and stadium construction. In 2000, he became the NFL's chief operating officer.
Goodell becomes the league's fourth commissioner since 1946

BFD, free agency killed pro football I wouldn't say it killed it exactly because it's easily the most popular sport we have, but I preferred the good old days before FA.

I do not like this choice at all. However, I do think that the salary cap is the best thing that ever happened to football with the possible exception of the tuck rule.

Kraft was on the selection committee, I believe. Hey, at least Jerry Jones or Al Davis didn't weasel their way in...

I'd look him up around December--remind him of the laughter, tears, etc you no doubt shared-- and score some tickets to the Cowboys and Chiefs.

Only those brainwashed by the MSM speak pejoratively of Mr. Davis I know. Incidentally, those two(Jones/Davis): two peas in a pod.
