Need PC Oil Change
My Desk

I have a two-year-old eMachine T3092 running Windows XP Home Edition. Over the past six months it has become progressively slower until it now takes 30-60 seconds to open a new screen or start an application. I use Norton Antivirus, Spy Sweeper, and BlackIce Firewall. I suspect the problem is simply too much extraneous crap in it.
Is there a product that can clean-up Windows and my files to get it up to speed again? Thanks.

One more thing about CC Cleaner. It will be located in your recycle bin. Just right click over the Icon to run it.
When it installs it will ask you to add a shortcut to your desktop and start up. I unchecked those two options. Remember its up to you. Good luck!

Very good recommendation. I second it. Combination of CCleaner and Registry First Aid makes a world of a difference.

Try using Spybot S&D and Lavasoft's Adaware as well.
Also, Click on your Start Button, Click Run, Type MSConfig
Click on the "Startup" Tab
Anything that isn't software you want loaded at the start, take off of the check mark
Leave up Norton, other important stuff you want to run..

Try uninstalling Norton.
I recently purchase a new pc for my office and one of the first orders of business was to uninstall Norton. To my surprise, it informed me that, "you don't have sufficient privileges", or sum such nonsense. Anybody have a clue how to work around this in light of the attempt to block Norton uninstall?

I have never tried that Registry First Aid. I run another utilities program called Defender Pro. Its seems to work pretty good.

Not sure, I'd have to see the message. When you boot up, and it asks you to select your profile, is there more than one option?

I decided to go through the motions of the Norton uninstall in order to quote verbatim the message-- and whatayaknow-- it is currently uninstalling! I was beginning tho think there was some grand conspiracy between Compaq and Norton(removing my tinfoil hat now).
I'm damned please to unload it. I like Trend PC-cillin, which I use at home. Thanks for your willingness to assist!

FYI... I purchased the Registry First Aid. Any hints?
To: Sprite518
1) On the intro screen click the box "Check the Registry For Errors"
2) On the next screen, click "Start" (this will create a backup of your registry and the search for errors will commence)
3) After the search finishes, click "Next"
4) Click "Fix It"
5) Exit when done
6) Repeat 2-3 times a month
Any other questions, give me a holler.
