On August 4th, we found out that Lenovo Group, the company that has taken over IBM's Personal Computing Division, had made a deal with Novell Inc. to preload SLED 10 (SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop) on its ThinkPad T60p mobile workstation.
For the first time, a major OEM (original equipment manufacturer) has committed to preloading a Linux desktop.

I had a Probe, and it was reliable. But then it was basically a Mazda underneath, not a Ford.
OK. In one thread, we have him confused on OSS, firearms, motorcycles, and free trade. Anything else?
This could be a record for the number of topics he has no clue on.
This could be a record for the number of topics he has no clue on.
That's only because it is the first thread that he's actually commented about anything besides his usual pro-microsoft trolling.
I'm not confused on anything. Once again I've simply shown the half dozen of you worship foreign products like these Chicom Linux laptops, and have no defense of yourselves other than insults. Maybe one day you'll mature enough to recognize your failings, but I doubt it, since you're so far gone you somehow take pride in your jap product username. LOL.
Okay Mr. Sony, who probably typed that on a keyboard made in Asia.
Seahorse wasn't on the list you posted.
Unfortunately one can't completely avoid buying products from overseas these days, especially electronics. That doesn't make those purchasers rabid foreign product pushers, such as yourself. Once again you've spent the entire thread glorifying the foreigners and their products you so obviously love, while insulting Americans and theirs. Worst of all, I'm sure you're proud of it, too.
It's all I have time for, since most every single day one of you guy posts some linux pimping article like this one praising the chicomms and their notebooks. Maybe one day you'll realize the danger of foreign goods replacing those from the US, but so far it seems to be the pinnacle of your lives.
So what, there were still several holes found directly in the linux kernel, but not a one in FreeBSD. You guys could be safer running American Unix on HP or Dell, but instead would rather celebrate your buggy foreign linux being sold on laptops direct from the chicom government.
Brass Buzzard? I like that. "BB" for short. Fitting.
I believe most of the Linux people here have mentioned that FreeBSD is about the most solid, secure OS out there.
You guys could be safer running American Unix
Unfortunately, FreeBSD isn't quite as well-developed as Linux for general use. Device drivers and applications are sparse. You can thank an SCO-type lawsuit for that, as AT&T delayed confidence in deploying the free BSD long enough for Linux to take hold. Without the legal troubles, Linus would have probably just used BSD himself instead of starting his own OS. Also, there'd still be no good kernel for all of Stallman's tools, and he would be a relatively obscure figure now.
on HP or Dell,
Using what percentage of Asian and maybe even Chinese parts? And don't forget that our economy was enriched to the tune of $1.75 billion for Lenovo to even be selling these laptops.
Personally, I'll never buy Lenovo. In fact, aside from DIY parts for my old PCs, the only OEM computer I'll ever buy again (that I can foresee) is a Mac.
I recommend good products, regardless of country of origin.
Once again you've spent the entire thread glorifying the foreigners and their products
Only as a counter to your rabid protectionism, to show you how stupid it is.
while insulting Americans and theirs.
I do remember saying that foreign competition forced a turnaround in our auto industry. For the comprehension-challenged, that means our products got good. I've also talked about American companies in a non-negative fashion, but since they sell Linux they're somehow foreign to you.
Actually, I believe I remember that he said he was not aware of BSD at the time he wrote his first kernel. If he had known about it, he never would have written Linux.
Eagle is too American, obviously. What's the bird of China?
I think you're right. Even then, the fully-functional 386BSD released in '92-'93 would have probably eclipsed the fledgling barely-capable Linux at the time had it not been for the lawsuit.
LOL when? And why aren't you using it? Because it doesn't have the fascination and mystique of foreign products? Not "open" enough for you? Doesn't use the GPL? What about Solaris? Why not it? The best Unix guys make a lot more dough than the best Linux ones. At least here in the US, of course.
But ONLY because you don't like their technology or price. You've already basically admitted you'd buy from Kim Jong ll if he had the best product on the market.
Seems to me anytime the word "Lenovo" is muttered a proud and concerned American would point out the Lenovo chicomm overlords. At least that's what I do, and for some reason you guys have a problem with it, or at least do a mad dash around trying to justify it using other foreign products you treasure.
Because other operating systems suit my needs better. Yes, the choice of OS can (and should) be based on practical decisions rather than how you and the "Stallmanites" do it, by philosophy.
You really are more like them than we are.
Actually, I'm just never buying a PC again.
Ridiculous, constantly creating threads like this one which is basically an add for a chicom computer computer company is something I'd never do. But it is something I object to, because of who it benefits, and I'm sure by the time the average person on this site reads this, they'll be sure and steer clear of them, like they should. As for Stallman, you're the one backing his horse in this discussion, not me.
