The Dixie Chicks' Oct. 7 concert at Sunrise's BankAtlantic Center has been canceled. No one wants to say precisely why or whether the show will be rescheduled -- at press time a venue official said confirmation is forthcoming, and the Chicks camp in Nashville did not return phone calls or e-mails.
But according to Pollstar, the concert industry's trade organization, the Oct. 7 date is now reserved for a concert in Australia.
The conservative country music community has had a beef with the Chicks ever since lead singer Natalie Maines spoke out against President Bush and later criticized country fans for their reactions. Ticket sales in Red States have been sluggish throughout the tour.
You have a good point, and I agree with you on both of your comments. You've got common sense! :)

Dixie Chicks Cancel Des Moines Concert
Des Moines, August 3, 2006 - First they were coming, now they have decided not to visit the Hawkeye state. Today the country music trio, Dixie Chicks announced they will not be performing at the Iowa Events Center. The councert was slated for August 24th.
No reason was given for the cancellation, but the group released a statement that said "This is a year where we weren't sure what to expect. We were prepared for a lot of things as we figure out this new phase of our career. What we weren't prepared for, however, was the overly passionate audience response at all of the stops on the tour so far. We are truly at a loss for words to explain what that has meant to us. We hope that our fans who were looking forward to a stop that is no longer on the tour will be able to join us at a nearby arena this fall, and we are sorry for any confusion or inconvenience these changes have caused."
All credit and debit card purchases will automatically be credited back to the original card. Cash refunds will be available starting Monday.
LOL!
:)
14 Shows are getting the axe!
"In a nutshell is a nut that tells me that all shows from now until August 20th, as well as those North American dates originally scheduled between Oct. 27 and Nov. 9th, will remain as is. However, the tour dates originally scheduled between Aug. 20 and Oct. 27 are either being moved to the end of the tour or are being cancelled.
There are six shows in North America that have not yet gone on sale (except for a couple of presales): Los Angeles, Fresno, Las Vegas, Regina, Saskatoon and a second Calgary date. I imagine that on sale dates and times will be announced as soon as they are confirmed, but word on the street is that they are expected to go on sale in mid-to-late September. And by "word on the street," I mean the hallway where I am currently eavesdropping in on management people.
Unfortunately, this means that Knoxville, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, Des Moines and Fargo are no longer on the schedule, and the following cities -- that were never put on sale other than the online-only presale -- are coming off the itinerary, as well: Kansas City, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, Memphis, Jacksonville, Greensboro, Houston, and Milwaukee. Thankfully, there are shows on the revised itinerary that are within 200 miles of most all of these cancelled shows. Hopefully, you and some friends can organize a roadtrip, rent a pink RV, and take the long way to another show."

Mark O'Connor on his worst day is better all by himself than all three Chicks are together on their best day.
I saw him perform when he was a skinny pimply faced 16 year old and his performance was the single most astounding tour de force of individual talent I have ever seen.
The Chicks are medicore musicians compared to a musician of genius like O'Connor.
Nat is prolly binging as we speak! LOL
Does a DVD of them performing live count? All I'm saying is regardless of their idiotic rants, these women are fine musicians.
I respect their musicianship, not their halfwitted political banter...
Ok, I can buy that. I truly don't know enough about BG pickers to comment one way or the other.
I just know how hard it is to make it in the business and you really have to have some talent, especially if your going to do country music live! From what I've seen of them, I realize they probably are not the "Best" but they are good. And futhermore, they have fair amount of talent for writing songs.
"I just know how hard it is to make it in the business and you really have to have some talent"
Not really. All you need is millions of dollars to spend on marketing. Plenty of artists see "success" with out talent. Jlo sold a few million, but she cant sing to save her life. As for the chicks, Sony went on record to say they spent more money on creating success for the chicks than have for any other artist in the labels history. Sony is also the same company who is under investigation for paying off stations to play their artists, its called PAYOLA.
You really don't know much about The Who, or Rock in general do ya? I would much rather hear raw energized talent than puff perfect harmonies, although they are something wonderful to hear sometimes. (YES, Queen, Heart, Eagles) But your complaining about, and being embarrassed for The Who and FWM not nailing harmonies just shows your utter lack of knowledge and appreciation of true Rock!
What, does "Abba" turn you on!
I was a fan of the Who before you were born (unless you're really really old like me). But when I heard them live, it was painful. "Substitute" is the song I remember where Townshend and Daltry never DID get together on the harmony. And I'm not talking about "good enough for jazz, not for classical" -- I'm talking about WAY off, not even in the ballpark.
You can talk about raw energized talent all you want, but if you're TRYING to sing harmony, you must succeed. Otherwise it just sounds bad. They should have stuck to unison in live performance.
He appeared as the marquee leader in a Brit film of John Gay's The Beggar's Opera, a riotous 18th century sendup of Handel's Italian-style opera.
He was so far out of his depth, it hurt.
We partly agree. They may be decent musicians, but I won't listen to them, won't watch their videos, and wouldn't steal their cds from anyone as that person might want to buy another one. They offend me, are repulsive to me and are banned from my home, my tv, my vehicles, my sight and my hearing. I'm glad that they have reveal their "true colors" so I can react accordingly.
Maybe the chicks have turned into ole stewing hens.
OK Willie with Fa la la la la, on the Xmas album, may not be great. But Pretty Paper!!!
One of the best secular Christmas Songs ever written, Willie wrote it himslef, and his voice is perfect for it!
Right?
Me too. Banjo and guitar. Banjo since I was about 5 and guitar since my early 20's. This area of SE Tennessee has some excellent pickers.
If you do you date me too. The Beverly Hillbillies show was what got me interested in playing banjo as a child. Almost 40 years later and I'm still trying to figure out how Earl Scruggs gets some of the sounds he gets out of a banjo......
