The Dixie Chicks' Oct. 7 concert at Sunrise's BankAtlantic Center has been canceled. No one wants to say precisely why or whether the show will be rescheduled -- at press time a venue official said confirmation is forthcoming, and the Chicks camp in Nashville did not return phone calls or e-mails.
But according to Pollstar, the concert industry's trade organization, the Oct. 7 date is now reserved for a concert in Australia.
The conservative country music community has had a beef with the Chicks ever since lead singer Natalie Maines spoke out against President Bush and later criticized country fans for their reactions. Ticket sales in Red States have been sluggish throughout the tour.
The most childish statement made today.
Tune your radio to 99.5 and then get back to me :)
Ain't it the truth. At one time I loved Crosby Still & Nash. Then I heard them live. I had to walk out after 20 minutes. Not only could they not sing or play in tune, they had the volume cranked to levels that should be illegal
They are GOOD musicians yes... but they are MUSICIANS.. and they aren't GREAT musicians, but pretty good ones...
Chix were made by the largest promotional push in SONY'S history... Sony spent more money making them stars than any act EVER.... and they collectively got too big for their britches, and threw it all away.
I won't deny their talent, but without SONY's backing they'd still be playing county fairs, and community days.
I really don't care if they are ready to make nice or not... they are entertainers.. that means you step and fetch for money, not run around spouting off idiotic political diatribes and then insulting your fan base. To quote another entertainer...
Know your role and shut your mouth.
I like your tag line!
I guess they now have a lot of time to hang out with their "cool friends" in Borders's across the US, drinking Lattes made in coffee shops where they have tip jars with clever sayings like "Tips give good karma". Drink up, girls!
They also owe SONY a LOT of money... part of their new better paying contract was they had to reimburse SONY for all the money spent on them...
I'm not sure, but last I heard, they still owe SONY a lot of $$$.
Yes, they can sing in tune. Even after 1 and a half hours, they can still sing in tune, acappella. I don't know what all this talk about crossover is about, but they're more country than Garth (in concert anyway). I was sure I was at a country concert.
I know what you mean about live concerts and aging singers. It's embarrassing. After a summer spent listening to some gold oldies in concert, I swore off rock concerts. (Luckily, my favorite concerts are classical, no voice, no pitch problems.)
The good thing about the Chix tour spiraling down is that now they'll be on the B list, which means they'll be appearing at a venue near me in the next few years. Hopefully, they'll have learned their lesson by then. Nobody serves up better humble pie than middle America!
You're RIGHT! I had forgotten about that. I went to one CSNY concert -- Neil Young was the worst offender. That man couldn't carry a tune in a ten-gallon bucket with both hands. And the rest of the lot were lost every time they tried to sing harmony. "Wooden Ships" made my teeth hurt, they never did find the harmony line (I had to leave too.) And yes, they were too loud.
We don't get a rat's ass about the music. There are zillions of good replacements for the Ditzy chicks. They just don't matter.
DC's biggest problem wasn't the fact they made some stupid comment about Bush being from Lubbok or whatever... though that was stupid.
What sealed their fate, and continues to is them coming out afterwards and attacking their fan base... you don't go out and call the folks who are paying your bills a bunch of names and expect them to stick around.
THey could have survived the "embarrasment" remark... their actions after it though have doomed them to mid card or jobber level for the forseable future.
I predict they'll be an opening act by their next albumn
Groupthink.... Hmmmmmmmm, would that be a popular viewpoint?
Fat Cat liberals can buy a million "Chicks" albums to dump in homeless shelters, but they can't hire enough people to fill a stadium. Too bad, Chicks...
But you know, so can a lot of people. MOST of our choir can . . . my dear husband has perfect pitch and a nice bass voice, but he'll never earn a living with it.
Good for them. They should shut the heck up and be musicians, because they are lousy politicians/Americans.
I'm going to watch the movie "Spinal Tap" again tonight, in honor of the direction these girls have driven their careers.
I sure hope those Chicks had a wise money manager who invested well for them when they were at the top ...
One can recognize good musicians that is not subjective. Liking the music played is a different matter entirely. Good musicians don't always play good music. Appreciation of technique has nothing to do with taste.
