Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
Our FreeRepublic team of 358 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 75th place (with 1009 active CPUs - 55,700 completed Work Units and 9.75 million points).
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 20 folding threads)
Hey, rdb3 - could you help us out on this? - post 359 & 360
Any help you can give is most appreciated.
Thanks,
RT
Created the share in Linux - wasn't that bad.
However Windows can't see it. Doesn't appear to be a Samba problem as the smbconf file seems appropriately configured on the Linux box (Suse 9, I have another with Kubuntu to try after I get this one working - Linux where laptops go when the original drive with Windows dies).
I thought that I should see it in Network Neighborhood, or at least be able to address it by IP and sharename \\192.168.1.108\DOCUMENTS, but Windows says it can't find it. Both are connected to the same side of the router.
Appreciate any help that can be offered. I'm not the most advanced person with Linux, but I'm not completely clueless either (unless you ask my wife).
Thanks for taking the lead in this, RebelTex. Unfortunately, my experience with Linux is rather lacking.
Check the ownership & permissions of the files in the 'Fold' folder on the Linux box. It sounds like the 'FAHlog.txt' and the 'unitinfo.txt' files are requiring admin logon to access. Try changing the ownership to your username and give yourself full access. I think you will then be able to see the files from your Windows box.
Good Luck,
RT
PS: sorry it took so long to get back to you - I'm in the middle of moving and my systems have been down. I may not be able to answer for a couple of days until I get this move completed. (Man, how do we accumulate so much crap - I've had to rent 2 storage spots, both 10'x20' - hope I survive this, LOL.)
I know - I'm bad, I'm bad, heheh.
Hey - no problemo.
Except I don't know Linux worth beans, but I try, haha.

How about a new thread in honor of Klutz breaking into the top 100 individual donors?
Can't even see the folder on the network. Haven't even gotten to the script part or FAHlog.txt & unitinfo.txt as it seems a moot point.
The problem is with the share itself, but I'm pretty sure I have the smbconf file configured correctly.
I'm slowing catching back up to you. You'll pull away a little today and tomorrow, but by the 24th I'll be nipping at your heels.
Try browsing your Windows box from your Linux box.
If the smbconf file is configured correctly and you still can't see the Windows box, then it may be a user/logon issue. Both boxes have to have the same user logged on and using the same password. You may have to create a new user on one of the boxes to match the other one. Be sure that the user has the right permissions.
Hope that helps.

I lost two machines this past week. I should pick both back up within a few days. Then I'm adding a dual core processor Linux machine in about ten days.
Has anyone posted a post lately to keep up morale and boost membership?
I meant a "thread," of course...sorry!
