Mine isn't my dos. This is a new computer with no trace of F@H on it. Will I have to start from scratch again? Will I be able to reclaim my, I think 47 WU's or are they gone with the wind?
With our on and off electricity problem, I have to use console.
This one has a dual processor. :-) :-)

I have it on a thumb drive...I think...if it took. Problem is, I didn't even know what a thumb drive was until a couple of months ago so that should tell you my knowledge on it.
My new FR username has changed as well, will that be a problem with my old name, pbrown?

Sorry about the delay in responding - I've been offline for a few days.
You mentioned that you changed your FR username - that won'[t affect your FAH stats and number of Work Units as long as you KEEP the same name ("pbrown") that you started out with on the FAH program. If you change that, then your stats will show you starting over.
Keeping the old name for FAH is no big deal - if you want to brag here on the FAH threads, just remind everyone that your stats are under "pbrown".
It's really a matter of personal preference.

Thank you for answering. I don't want to lose my old WU's.
I found my F@H stuff but, there's no red cog to click on to get it up and running again. Any idea how I do it?

If you are running the console version, there won't be a Red Cog to click on. The first time you double-click the file 'FAH504-Console.exe' - it will start the configure process where you tell it to run as a service. It will then always run in the background whenever the computer is turned on.
If you are running the Windows version - you have to double-click the file that you downloaded so that it will start an install process. When it's done, you need to reboot - then the Red Cog icon should show up on the desktop.
Let me know if you need more help or ask someone on the current thread. I have to go back to work and may not be able to post for a couple of days because of a move I'm still trying to get done.
Good Luck. (and remember, it's team 36120)

I can't find the fah 504-console.exe, so I'm gonna start from scratch. Team 36120-got it. My question now is, which one do I download,
1)Windows XP GPU client console version (recommended) 5.05 beta download GPU FAQ License 64ac27508f932ed1c9eaa89bb9c201c7
2)Windows XP GPU client GUI version 5.05 beta download GPU FAQ License b618f87c139b323fb9b6a305bb5fb832
3)Windows XP GPU client GUI (fancy graphics) version 5.05 beta download GPU FAQ License 113d66af961c83a299212da810662018
I don't want the fancy graphics if I don't have to have it.

"My question now is, which one do I download ..."
That depends on your system, OS, and how you want FAH to run.
First, make sure you got all of FAH uninstalled. Did you go to the FAH folder and delete it after uninstalling? If not, do it now. Then search your hard drive for "FAH" and delete any associated files. Now, let's review what the 4 links on each row of the table of download choices will do.
- The first link is the version number and clicking on it will open a web page that shows the changes made for each version. Just click the back arrow at the top of your browser to go back to the download page.
- The second link is the download file and clicking on it will open pop-up information box that gives you a choice to open the file or save it. You must save it somewhere on your hard drive, then exit the browser and navigate to the file and run it to start the install.
- The third link is the install info and clicking on it will open a web page that shows information on how to install that version Just click the back arrow at the top of your browser to go back to the download page.
- The fourth link is the license and clicking on it will open a web page that shows the license to run the software. (You don't need to download it. Read it if you want - I just skip it.) Just click the back arrow at the top of your browser to go back to the download page.
Now, the best place to get more info on which version you want is to read the install info pages. I suggest that after you choose which one to download, you print out the install info page for that version so that you will have it available as you go through the install process. Here are some general tips that might help you to decide.
- If you are running Windows 98 or Windows ME, then the only choice you have is # 5 on your list: Windows 98/ME Graphical client 4.00 (don't use this one for any other version of Windows).
- If the video card on your system is not a new high performance Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) from ATI (if it's older that 6 months, it's probably not), then do NOT download GPU choices (numbers 1,2, & 3 on your list).
- Next, you need to choose between graphical or console version. The graphical version (number 4 on your list) puts the red cog on the taskbar which you can click and see the protein folding and your progress on that work unit. This is video intensive and may slow down games or other graphics programs when you open that window. The console version (numbers 6 and 7 on your list) sets up as a service and runs in the background whenever the machine is turned on, regardless of who is logged on. After installing it and choosing to run as a service (you must answer yes during the install), you never have to start it as it runs automatically when the system starts up. The disadvantage to the console version is that there is no icon to click or window to show you it's progress. You have to navigate to the folder where FAH is installed and open the text file 'FAHlog.txt' and scroll to the bottom to see how it's doing. However, FReeper 'egon' created a program just for FReepers that can keep track of it and all your work units - you should Freepmail him to get the program, if you choose the console version. I recommend it - it's great.
- If you choose the console version, then you have a choice of a very stable version (number 7 on your list) or the beta version (number 6 on your list and mostly stable but still in testing and may have an occasional problem). This is the version I use, along with egon's monitor.
I hope this helps - let me know how it goes.
