Authorities were searching Monday for a man who witnesses said shot and killed an Illinois tourist who was asking for directions.
After dropping his son off at a shopping mall, Ronald Gentile, 54, pulled over in the Coconut Grove area Saturday afternoon, police said. Witnesses reported seeing Gentile roll down the window on his rented white Chevrolet Cobalt. A man dressed in black then apparently approached the vehicle, robbed and shot Gentile.

I know. I should say that I was referring to my own little slice of Detroit. I used to periodically walk from Dearborn to (old) Tiger Stadium.
I believe this is true. Went to see a friend in California a few years back. We went to San Francisco..got caught out after dark walking to parking garage.
Coming directly towards us on the sidewalk was a group of young blacks, both male and female maybe (6 of them or so, the number gets larger every time I think of it. LOL!).
I wanted to cross the street, get out of the way. My friend says "no you won't".."We are walking right through them without either looking straight at them OR averting our eyes".
I was SO SCARED. My friend says if we would have crossed the street, we'd have made ourselves "easy marks". Staying the course, so to speak, told them we were from "around there".

True enough. I lived in various parts of Fairfax from 1987-89. A year or two later I came back up to visit friends and we went clubbing in Georgetown. After the clubs closed, for some reason, our driver (who was probably slightly schnockered, but it was his car) decided that we were going to return from Georgetown to Sterling via the scenic route...through downtown, by the Capitol, by RFK Stadium, down Pennsylvania Avenue SE out into Maryland, all the way to the Beltway, and then around to Route 267. NOT the place you want to be at zero-dark-thirty in the morning.

You did exactly the right thing.One thing about ghetto culture is that standing up for yourself is respected and deemed absolutely necessary for survival.
I had a white friend in the Sixties who went to one of our local high schools and he got into THREE fights with black kids who tried to"test"him the first week.Well,guess what?Two of those guys later became his good friends and"had his back"in future confrontations.
The sad thing about that particular school is that there are no whites LEFT there anymore!They either go to private schools or moved out to the burbs.Yet the same principle hold true for the Mexican and Asian kids who took their place.You don't let the black kids"punk"you.Nor do you let your"own people"punk you either.
I used to live in San Francisco when it still had a black middle class.Now the only blacks left are the hard core project folks or the older blacks who haven't high tailed it back to the South yet.Those old houses in the Fillmore that black families purchased in the Fifties for ten grand are now going for one Million and up!
That buys a lot of property in Opelousas,Louisiana!
Well they are raised or should I say not raised and they are not taught to have a regard for human life. Their parents let them hang out all hours of the day and night and could care less. They dump their kids off at the library or community center while mom sits at home watching Oprah instead of talking to their kids and helping them with their homework so the kids are hanging out on the street. I hear so much on t.v. about stopping the violence and having more activities for the kids. These kids need to be home at a decent hour spending time with their family eating, talking and doing homework and chores around the house. The need parents to be parents. It is the parents fault. If the parents can't take care of these kids then the parents need to be educated on the use of birth-control so they don't end up with 5 or 8 kids that they can't feed and take care of.
Frightening when I think that that is not what I would have done if I was an unknowing tourist.
Problem is that in many cases the parents are simply NOT THERE.Dad is often in jail and moms isn't doing right either.I keep thinking of that old Curtis Mayfield song:

Broken home,father gone,mama tired,so he's all alone
Kinda sad,kinda mad,ghetto child,thinking he's been had.
That song came out in 1972 and its only gotten worse since then.
Yet some of the kids in the hood really do try to do the right thing in spite of the amoral culture around them.Some have actually done a better job raising themselves than their no account parents were doing!

I went to High School with kids from this hood 30 years ago. It was a ghetto back then but times were different. We thought nothing of driving down Douglas Rd. day or night and had a good friend who lived in one of the projects off Grand Ave.
I think things permanently changed in Miami after the 1980 riots.
Upper Fallujah is in Dearborn, not Detroit. Detroit is Somalia West. It's nasty.
Today they are celebrating in the streets for their leader.

I'm being somewhat sarcastic. But the cubans are partying in the streets down in little havana (Miami)...its all over news...here anyway.

The main reason we did not move to FL was because of the hurricanes and the 95% humidity during the summer (whew!). The crime doesn't bother me so much as the heat. We have crime here in CA (a lot), and I sure would like to move out of here. Again, not so much the crime, but because of a bunch of wacko former hippies in our legislature, they are running the state into the ground. Unfortunately, our RINO governator hasn't done much to reverse.
I don't think being stupid deserves death because most of these kids are not totally responsible for being stupid and not knowing any better. When all you see and experience in your day to day life is death and drugs and no regard for life then what do you expect. I feel so bad for many of the young and I mean young kids I see riding around in cars not buckled up just standing in the seat or on the floorboard. These kids still have a chance at growing up and being decent human beings! If you Kill othes and it is intentional you don't deserve to be in society with the rest of us unless you really are truely sorry for your actions and you are a changed person. When I hear of some punks breaking into a house and getting shot and killed by the home owner I can only think...there's one less to worry about. On the other hand I do feel sorry for these people who have died because I worry about their soul and what will happen to them and the family they leave behind. "Can't we all just get along!!"
Yep, for most of them it is not their fault that they don't know who they daddy be. That is very sad but true and i wish it weren't like that. A lot of them don't have the opportunity, the love and the resources to educate themselves and make a better life for themselves. All they've known is how to live on welfare and that their brothers and sisters are from different fathers. (I think a lot of these communities don't know the words birth control)((One of the questions asked during the Presidental debates was how would you stop or control the spread of aids that is so rampant amongst african community? My response is to tell them to stop screwing like animals and to use a condom if you do! It's not our responsibility to pay for your stupidity. Just like smoking you know having unprotected sex will getcha)). Then they grow up and that is how they live their life because that is all they've known.
